Leidos is seeking a broadly experienced Lead Engineer to lead the execution of its Internal Research and Development portfolio.
You will be able to successfully manage multiple concurrent tasks and projects in an effort to support the new engineering projects, technical refresh, new system improvement and modernization activities, and other major changes that occur. The successful candidate will be expected to advise and guide the technical staff in current and new technology and solutions and how they can be applied to both current "as built" configurations as well as integrated into our long-range modernization plan and vision for the program. The Lead Engineer will be responsible for efforts pertaining to the use case gathering, requirements gathering, business case designs, estimating costs, and executing research plans strategically aligned to Sector strategy.

Primary Responsibilities
• Use Case Collection: Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and analyze use cases, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of user needs and business objectives.
• Strategic Alignment: Collaborate internally and externally (CHO, CIO, LInC, partners) to the Sector to ensure alignment of projects with DigMod Sector strategy
• Project Requirements Definition: Translate use cases into detailed project requirements, creating clear specifications for engineering teams to follow.
• Process Design/Execution/Integration: Define the research process undertaken by the Sector and how this process integrates with Sector strategy and other technology sources internal and external to Leidos
• Project Deliverables Definition: Define and outline specific project deliverables, ensuring clarity on expected outcomes, timelines, and responsibilities.
• Project Financial Management: Maintain insight into project budgets and ensure that financial resources are allocated efficiently, optimizing cost, and ensuring project plans track closely to the allocated budget.
• Technical Leadership: Lead engineering efforts throughout the project lifecycle, providing guidance on design, implementation, and best practices.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product management, UX/UI design, and other teams to align project goals and deliverables.
• Quality Assurance: Oversee testing and validation processes to ensure solutions meet the defined requirements and quality standards; ensure compliance with corporate standards.
• Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of use cases, requirements, and technical specifications.
• Mentorship: Provide mentorship and support to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
• Stakeholder Communication: Regularly update stakeholders on project progress, financial status, challenges, and solutions, facilitating open communication throughout the project.

Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (CS) or Engineering field with a minimum of 15+ years relevant technical experience. Additional years experience may be used in lieu of a degree.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of stakeholders
• Must have demonstrated experience identifying, developing, and implementing engineering change solutions and new technology and solutions on a large enterprise national scale.
• Demonstrated experience in all phases of a project lifecycle.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a customer environment collaboratively through constraints to meet mission milestones.
• Must have proven track record of critical thinking and developing creative problem and hard problem solutions with a focus on outcome-based delivery of meaningful innovations.
• Experience identifying, developing, and implementing engineering change solutions with new technology and solutions on a large enterprise/national scale.
• Experience with large programs, and performing technology assessments, trade studies, analysis of alternatives, and creating capability roadmaps.
• Experience with Network Operation Center, Defensive Cyber Operations, and Data Center operational processes.
• A working knowledge of data analytics, algorithms, and modeling to solve analytically complex operational challenges.
• Demonstrated understanding of a broad range of technical focus areas including: WAN/SD-WAN, data management/architecture, AI/ML Cloud Hosting, Multi-Cloud Operations, Defensive Cyber Operations, and Data Center Operations.
• Self-motivated and focused on delivering outcomes with the ability to work independently and in teams.
Preferred Qualifications
• Master's degree in computer science (CS), Software Engineering, or related Engineering field.
• Solution Architecture experience on large-scale enterprise IT program(s)
• Experience with business process creation and optimization
• Previously served in a role as a Principal Investigator; familiar with R&D projects in the areas of AI, Software, Cloud, or Defensive Cyber technologies.
• Understanding of generating, maintaining, and evolving technology roadmaps

Pay Range:
Pay Range $122,200.00 - $220,900.00
The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
