Description

Leidos has an excellent opportunity for a Design Engineer to work on the Cargo Mission Contract (CMC) in support of ISS and Artemis programs. In this position, the employee will be located in our Leidos facility in Webster, Texas. Some domestic and international travel may be required. This role also has the opportunity to support Leidos Commercial work for space flight hardware. The CMC team works with commercial software such as IBM Maximo, Creo, Microsoft (MS) Project, and MS SharePoint, in addition to CMC custom software. Support of tests and other activities may be required outside of normal working hours.

Per the contract, U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency is required. Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work independently and in a team environment to analyze requirements from the NASA customer and develop design solutions
  • Design, develop, test, handle implementation and analysis of technical products and systems
  • Perform engineering design evaluations and present findings to leadership and customers
  • Perform trade studies and create out-brief presentations for leadership and customers
  • Produce engineering drawings conforming to JPR 8500 and other applicable NASA standards
  • Perform dimensional fit tolerance analysis and functional analysis which including form, fit and function
  • Produce drawings conforming to ASME Y14.5
  • Release and store drawings and CAD models in the NASA JEDII repository
  • Prepare and present designs at various design reviews
  • Coordinate and oversee manufacturing work with vendors
  • Produce other required design documentation as required
  • Evaluate designs for cost and manufacturability
  • Optimizing designs to minimize cost and schedule impacts
  • Communicate with internal and client project team members. Work to influence team members regarding solution design, process and/or approaches
  • Support hardware development projects to certify, flight-configure, and deliver new hardware for spaceflight
  • Create and maintain project resource-loaded schedules in MS Project Professional
  • Develop basis-of-estimates (BOEs) for new on-contract growth

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field, and 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience designing simple to complex electro-mechanical designs
  • Experience working with multi-discipline teams and customers
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with presenting technical and financial project status to large groups such as technical NASA boards
  • Must have the ability to produce drawings conforming to ASME Y14.5
  • Must have experience using PTC CREO CAD software and WINDCHILL
  • Must have strong knowledge of machine shop processes

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineering License
  • Familiarization with JSC Engineering Drawing System Manual (JPR 8500)
  • Familiarization with JSC Fabrication Tolerances and Practices (SKZ36103755)
  • Experience designing flight hardware and creating drawings for NASA/JSC based projects
  • Experience with Maximo Inventory Management System

Pay Range:

Pay Range $67,600.00 - $122,200.00
