Leidos is seeking a talented Deputy Program Manager to lead a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Leidos provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

The Deputy Program Manager will be part of a diverse team focused on providing Program Management Support to a variety of applications in the Defense Sector Space Division. Candidate will be required to support multiple tasks in parallel, productively contribute to and lead team environments, and communicate effectively to management, employees, coworkers, and customers. The individual must also be self-motivated and highly organized with a focus on managing customer expectations with a constant goal of generating high quality products that exceed customer expectations. Demonstrated ability to lead teammates and personnel is also required.

Primary Responsibilities

The Deputy Program Manager will have a key impact on program execution and will:

  • Evaluate and guide daily execution activities in support of the program manager
  • Lead IPT meetings and set expectations for project team
  • Routinely evaluate program technical and programmatic metrics to ensure successful execution
  • Manage risk and identify opportunities at the IPT level including working with the IPT to develop mitigation strategies and plans to realize opportunities
  • Identify capability or process gaps and provide recommendations for improvement
  • Coordinate program activities across multiple functional activities
  • Foster the implementation of creative solutions in the execution of project engineering for high reliability space systems
  • Foster intra-project coordination and communication
  • Aid program manager in mitigating cost, schedule, and technical risks related to materials used on the program
  • Plan and execute hardware centric projects
  • Create project plans and maintain project objectives
  • Define tasks and required resources
  • Assist with assembling and managing project team
  • Work with program schedulers to maintain schedule
  • Oversight of the technical scope under the assigned control accounts
  • Support earned value management cost reporting to the customer
  • Development, management, coordination and presentation of various informational products to support:

    • Weekly Program Management Reviews (PMRs)
    • Weekly senior management meetings
    • Monthly internal and external programmatic reviews
    • Customer IPT meetings
    • Tracking and providing status of internal and external action items
    • Performing supply chain vulnerability assessments on purchased parts and raw material needed for the program

Basic Qualifications

  • BS degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of eight (8) years of direct engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and six (6) years of direct engineering experience
  • In-depth understanding of project engineering & project management with at least 5 years of experience with project engineering, preferably on hardware systems development programs
  • Cost estimating and Budget management
  • Leading a large and diverse team including suppliers and subcontractors
  • Disciplined metric-driven program management
  • Proven experience managing to and meeting tight schedules
  • Effective communication of information between various functional disciplines as well as strong briefing skills with senior customer and corporate
  • Proficient using Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and PowerPoint
  • Strong understanding of hardware development, manufacturing, procurement, production, and integration
  • Proven leadership skills including working in a team environment, fostering communication, listening to teammate concerns and reconciling internal issues or differences
  • Proven ability to solicit and process complex information and data to solve complex problems and make sound decisions
  • Analytical and strong organizational skills, with excellent verbal and written ability
  • Experience with supply chain management and ability to work with suppliers to help them meet both hardware and non-hardware deliverable requirements
  • Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or be willing to relocate
  • US Citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project management qualification (PMP) or equivalent
  • Experience supporting a multi-year development/production program valuing more than $100M
  • Manned Space Flight Program experience
  • Composite manufacturing experience
  • Exposure or general knowledge of Earned Value Management

Pay Range:

Pay Range $89,700.00 - $162,150.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
