Description

The Space Division at Leidos has an opening for a Composites Materials and Process Engineer to work in our Decatur, AL production facility. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience helping the team to develop new composite materials and processes along with techniques to support the Universal Stage Adapter in support of the NASA SLS program.

Primary Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for identifying the materials and developing, modifying, and evolving composite structure layup and bonding processes of carbon aluminum honeycomb panels. The position will be responsible for material review/selection based on program requirements and developing processes and procedures to support the standup of the processes for large scale aerospace hardware manufacturing. Responsible for communicating and directing changes and use of materials and process.

The candidate is required to perform planning, test execution, scheduling, and resource management. They will perform trade studies, support ground support equipment development, lead selection of materials and develop process, create test plans and procedures, and support engineering review boards. The candidate will work in an office and shop production environment. Candidate will be required to ascend/descend stairs and be able to lift fifty pounds.

Basic Qualifications

  • Requires Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, or closely related field.
  • Candidate must have a minimum of 8 years of related experience in composites production and fabrication.
  • Extensive understanding of composite fabrication processes to include structure layup, bonding, curing, cutting, and other fabrication processes.
  • Candidate will be required to ascend/descend multiple flights of stairs.
  • Candidate will be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to work well with cross-functional teams, design engineers, analysts, manufacturing, project management and customer representatives
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills, and ability to work with multiple interfaces
  • Experience in large scale composite hardware

Pay Range:

Pay Range $104,650.00 - $189,175.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
