Leidos is seeking a highly skilled and experienced CNC Programmer - Weekend shift to join our Mechanical Manufacturing team in Huntsville, AL, to support operations in our precision machining environment. This programmer will be responsible providing shop floor support for troubleshooting, creating NC programs, participating in Root Cause & Corrective Action (RCCA) activities, and manufacturing process development. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in build-to-print machine shop environments and experience supporting CNC machining, assembly, and process improvement initiatives. This role requires strong communication skills to ensure seamless collaboration between first and second shift teams, including machinists, engineers, and leadership.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide shop floor support to resolve technical and manufacturing issues.
  • Work with quality engineering and manufacturing groups to perform root cause analysis and develop corrective action plans to reduce/eliminate non-conformances.
  • Develop 3 & 5-Axis CNC programs for machining of complex aerospace and defense hardware in a variety of materials including, but not limited to, inconel, titanium, alloy steels, stainless steels, aluminums, and composites.
  • Create complete work package consisting of CNC program, machining operation setup sheets, tool lists and other related documentation for use by machinist.
  • Analyze engineering drawings and required specifications to develop CNC program and process flow to meet drawing requirements.
  • Work with manufacturing engineering and machinists to develop manufacturing processes, including detailed work instructions, manufacturing sketches/drawings and other shop floor documentation.
  • Analyze and evaluate manufacturing methods to provide solutions that positively affect cost, operator safety, productivity, and quality.
  • Continuously improve production processes by implementing Lean initiatives.
  • Maintain positive, team relationships, and effectively communicate between shifts.
  • Develop technical solutions to complex problems using a data driven approach.
  • Create and maintain manufacturing BOMs in ERP and MES systems.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or related field) with 4 years minimum experience OR equivalent education and experience in a CNC Programming role.
  • Experience in a precision machining, build-to-print machine shop environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with experience in RCCA, corrective actions, and process troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and engineering drawing interpretation.
  • Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) such as Solumina.
  • Strong understanding of CNC machining processes, tooling, workholding, and process optimization.
  • Working proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook) for documentation, reporting and data analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience with continuous improvement initiatives and process optimization.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally in a TEAM environment.
  • Ability to work independently and make critical decisions in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Regular attendance required.
  • Applicant must be able to work a full-time, 3-days Friday, Saturday, Sunday 12-hour shifts, Weekend shift 6a-6p.
  • Must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance OR meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles, including 5S, Value Stream Mapping, and Kaizen initiatives.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks or other CAD software for fixture and tool design.
  • Experience with Siemens NX, Surfcam, or other CAM software for machining support.
  • Experience in the aerospace industry.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $72,150.00 - $130,425.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
