As the Mechanical BIM Manager, you will lead a highly creative and efficient Mechanical BIM team, tasked with managing the design of challenging and complex projects with innovative solutions for Amazon owned Data Center facilities. You will be responsible for overseeing the preparation of Mechanical, Plumbing & Fire Protection BIM models, construction documents and leveraging BIM data. Your team will influence Data Center design documents for: Air Handling Units, Cooling Towers, Chillers, Control Systems, Fire Detection/Suppression systems, Piping and Plumbing systems.


Key job responsibilities
Responsibilities
• Manage and mentor a team of Mechanical BIM Designers, providing leadership in project execution, standards development, and career growth
• Review and approve detailed Mechanical, Plumbing & Fire Protection Revit project models and construction documents
• Develop and enforce BIM standards and maintain Revit templates
• Manage project schedules, budgets and resources to ensure successful delivery
• Drive continuous improvement by implementing lean principles and new technologies
• Interface with cross-functional teams, external consultants, vendors and contractors
• Direct development and reporting of key metrics to senior management
• Travel to Data Center sites for engineering evaluations and reviews as needed
• Provide expert consultation on mechanical design strategies for new construction and retrofit projects
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on developing innovative, efficient and cost-effective mechanical system designs
• Stay current with industry trends, new technologies and best practices related to data center mechanical design
• Conduct feasibility studies, energy analyses and life cycle cost assessments to optimize mechanical system selection
• Develop and maintain mechanical design guidelines, specifications and standard details
• Participate in design reviews to ensure compliance with Amazon standards and project requirements

A day in the life
As a designer, you will collaborate across disciplines and teams to refine data center designs. Your work includes creating detailed models, drawings, specification, prototypes, and updating managers and leaders of changes to the building design. You engage in design discussions, review feedback from peers and collaborators, and adjust designs to ensure our data center solutions meet the highest standards of efficiency and quality.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• 8+ years of Mechanical, Plumbing & Fire Protection design/engineering experience in Industrial or Commercial MEP BIM design
• 2+ years previous people management experience leading direct reports (Staffing, Budgeting, Scheduling, Career development, performance management, salary management)
• Expert knowledge of Mechanical, Plumbing & Fire Protection codes and safety regulations
• Advanced proficiency with Revit for producing Mechanical, Plumbing & Fire Protection BIM models and construction documents

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical or electrical Engineering
• Proficient reading and interpreting construction related drawings for all disciplines
• Understanding and strong belief in any of the following Continuous Improvement methodologies, practices and concepts (ex: LEAN, Six Sigma, TQM, TPS)
• Experience directly related to Data Center design and construction
• Experience implementing Revit for large facility engineering design
