Perform basic veterinary laboratory procedures including but not limited to the following duties and responsibilities in compliance with appropriate SOP, IACUC Protocol and Regulatory Agency guidelines.
Essential Job Duties:
• Reports all animal care concerns and becomes involved in resolution and appropriate corrective action, when necessary
• Ensures that studies and colony management are conducted according to IACUC protocol, standard operating procedure documents, and government regulations
• Can interpret and understand a basic protocol
• Basic understanding of good research practice (GRP) principles
• Performs regulatory and medical recordkeeping with minimal quality control (QC) findings and understands the level of a quality assurance (QA) audit
• Maintains client confidentiality at all times
• May be involved in Process Excellence initiatives
• Effectively manages time and resources, e.g., equipment, rooms, feed, environmental requirements, study supplies, surgical supplies
• Performs multiple methods of euthanasia on multiple species
• Performs basic dosing and bleeding techniques and restraint procedures on multiple species
• Performs general physical exams and laboratory testing on multiple species
• Performs other related duties as assigned
Minimum Required:
- Basic computer knowledge and Basic math skills.
- Ability to accurately read and record information.
- Must be able to work in a laboratory setting with laboratory animals and to stand, sit or walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Good written and verbal communication skills required
- Basic computer skills; familiarity with Microsoft Office software
Recommended Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Associate degree in Laboratory Animal Technology or Associate degree in Veterinary Technology.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education.
