The Role:

Our largest UK site in Harrogate, North Yorkshire is currently recruiting for a Laboratory Supervisor to join the BioAnalysis team.

The BioAnalysis team focuses on analysis of samples using LC-MS/MS techniques and the successful candidate will have substantial experience and understanding of LC-MS/MS.

The general role of the Laboratory Supervisor is to:

• Manage all the activities of a team of operational staff responsible for the analysis of bioanalytical samples.

• Responsible for ensuring that procedures carried out by their team are carried out in a timely and cost effective manner which requires accurate and also flexible scheduling.

• Responsible for ensuring that the procedures carried out are scientifically sound and that they meet Client and Departmental requirements.

• Responsible for ensuring that the laboratory is maintained to a high standard.

• Specific responsibility for formally initiating and driving process improvements throughout the operations area.

Key Skills of the role include:

• Health & Safety - Knowledge and practice, including, personal protection equipment and COSHH

• GLP and GCP - Including good housekeeping and labelling requirements, recording and checking of raw data, general metrology, use of analytical procedures, handling of samples and standards

• Comprehensive understanding of the production of protocols, SOPs, analytical procedures, forms and reports; evaluation of data; archiving; client and QA audits

• General Laboratory Procedures and Equipment - Including use of balances, pipettes, volumetric glassware, pH meter, preparation of reagents and calibration solutions. Able to advise, troubleshoot and supervise their use.

• Knowledge and Use of Specific Analytical Equipment - Such as cerex systems, UV spectrophotometer, automated analysis systems

• Comprehensive understanding of troubleshooting and routine maintenance; validation and transfer. Able to advise and supervise in its use.

• Knowledge and Use of Data Processing System - Such as Analyst, to include general set-up, use of methods and sequences, system suitability checks, integration and plots.

• Knowledge and Use of LIMS system - Able to advise and supervise in the daily use of Nautilus e.g. building worksheets, selecting re-assays

• Communication Skills - Including liaison with Supervisors; other members of staff; other departments and clients; presentation skills; use of spreadsheets, word processing and graphics to display information, data and results

• Supervisory Skills - Management of a team of Laboratory Technicians and Experimental Officers; organisation and planning of studies to meet reporting and financial targets; identification and allocation of resource requirements; monitoring performance; appraisal and development of staff; knowledge of company policies

• Responsible for a maximum of 10 individuals in the Lab Operation Group.

Education:

• B.Sc. or equivalent. Qualifications may be substituted for relevant work experience in a bioanalytical lab

Experience:

• Substantial experience of using or knowledge of LCMS techniques - minimum 3 years in industry

• Prior line management or training experience preferred

• An understanding of health and safety policies and of GMP/GLP/GCP regulations

• Computing skills, including word processing and use of spreadsheets (e.g. Microsoft Office packages and Microsoft Project)
