At our site In Harrogate, North Yorkshire we are looking to recruit a Laboratory Manager within the Genetic Toxicology department.

The Laboratory Manager's role is to develop and lead a team of operational scientists and team leaders within the field of Genetic Toxicology and may undertake these in-house lab responsibilities as well on assigned studies. Responsible for the planning, supervision and conduct of work assigned to the team to ensure that all studies are performed to high scientific quality, in accordance with Study Plan, GLP and relevant SOPs.

Job Requirements:

  • Undertake the role of Line Manager to designated staff including recruitment, performance management and staff development
  • Maintain an awareness of enquiry status and liaise with Management regarding availability within team to undertake new studies
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of scientific advances, techniques, instrumentation and methodology relevant to the department and recommend new technologies for implementation in the department
  • Provides the managerial and operational support necessary for the preparation, conduct and reporting of studies carried out within the team
  • Overall accountability for accuracy, soundness, quality, timeliness and completeness all work performed
  • Overall responsibility for scheduling and allocating resources, responsibility for study, data and/or reporting quality, including equipment metrology and functionality
  • Ensures that an adequate number of trained and competent staff is available to match the workload requirements, including staff retention and succession planning
  • Provides for safety and welfare of staff and supports/enforces Environmental Health and Safety Policies.
  • Assist in investigation and development of new technologies in order to strengthen the reputation and capabilities of the company. Participate as necessary in the development of strategies to market these capabilities
  • Participate in strategic meetings and provide leadership for research programs
  • Financial awareness and maintaining metrics for studies with regard to assay pricing and scheduling
  • Hosts and conducts client and regulatory audits
  • Required to execute long term and strategic goals in department as assigned

Skills and experience:

  • Full understanding of the drug development process, regulatory requirements and the scientific techniques of Genetic Toxicology studies required
  • BSc degree in an appropriate scientific discipline, with relevant experience in Genetic Toxicology and drug development
  • Experience of a range of techniques/approaches relevant to the Genetic Toxicology department and/or unique expertise for a specific scientific service
  • Experience in staff management, coaching, mentoring and supervision and proven experience of managing team leaders and supervisors
  • Experience of new assay development and validation
  • Working knowledge of software eg, MS Word, Excel and general IT skills
