About the Team:
- Labcorp's Toxicology Division provides a range of services for clients including urine drug testing for workplace drug testing, prescription drug monitoring, federal workplace drug testing, clinical drug testing for medication assisted treatment, addiction treatment and wellness and behavioral health.
- The Toxicology testing laboratory located in Durham, North Carolina is a full-service clinical and forensic toxicology laboratory where the team members get to work on highly impactful testing services including those supporting large hospital systems and various specialty practices.
- Analytical platforms include, automated immunoassay, Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)
Internship Assignment Summary:
- The Toxicology Intern works in a fast paced, production type environment. This employee will be responsible for performing various non-technical tasks within the different departments/areas of the Toxicology laboratory

- The incoming intern will be trained on most of the laboratory procedures to provide hands-on experience with areas including:
- Receiving/Accessioning of specimens.
- Aliquoting of specimens for initial and confirmatory testing,
- Quality control,
- Screening (Initial testing)
- LC-MS extractions (Confirmation testing)
- Training in Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) including daily maintenance and function checks and Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and safety policies.
- Work on LC-MS method development and validation experiments
- Perform other assigned projects including, process improvements
Education/Qualifications/Skills:
- Working towards bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology preferred.
- Has experience delivering multiple projects in an academic or professional setting
- Ability to collaborate with various stakeholders and internal/external colleagues
- Must be able to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in fast paced high-volume environment and while prioritizing and manage multiple tasks
- Able to work independently under general supervision
- Must be able to regularly lift, carry, and rotate/turn with up to thirty pounds
Preferred Education, Experience, Skills and Qualifications:
Chemistry lab experience/proficiency preferred. Mass Spectrometer experience
About the Position:
- Scheduled Days: Monday - Friday
- Scheduled Hours: 8:00am - 5.00pm
Pay Range: $17-20 / hour
Benefits: Employees regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week are eligible for comprehensive benefits including: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, STD/LTD, 401(k), Paid Time Off (PTO) or Flexible Time Off (FTO), Tuition Reimbursement and Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
