We have opportunities in our Necropsy department in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire!
This is a great opportunity to work in the Necropsy Department within the Post Life Services Division for those with an interest in anatomy and wanting a hands-on role whilst offering a supportive environment, mixing both college studies and laboratory-based work alongside a team Scientists. Whilst training you will learn a broad range of laboratory skills and techniques in a GLP environment.
A level of manual dexterity and attention to detail is needed to complete intricate dissections of organs and tissues from multiple animal species including organ weights, visual descriptions of organs and tissues recorded onto computer systems to create data points for further analysis. Tissues are then processed within the Histology Department to create a stained tissue slide for pathological analysis performed by a pathologist.
Diverse teams work dynamically throughout the week in a fast paced laboratory setting, with an emphasis on team work, flexibility and adaptability. High efficiency and productivity is developed and maintained through training and constructive feedback and this is balanced with a high level of quality in all aspects of the role.
Training is on the job, with a dedicated training program offering both one on one sessions and larger groups in order to develop key manual and scientific skills. Our aim during the 2-year programme is to produce confident competent scientific technicians with the core skills to allow them to develop a career within the company. We then offer the option to progress to both a Level 5 or Level 6 Degree qualification or beyond to a Masters Qualification.
What you'll receive:
- You'll undertake a Level 3 Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship over the course of 24 months.
- If you already hold an A Level (or equivalent) in a scientific subject, you will also study for a Level 4 HNC in Applied Science.

What are we looking for:
- An A-level in Biology or Chemistry is preferred but not essential. Relevant work Experience or a level 3 science-based qualification is also beneficial.
- A passion for science

- Able to work independently as well as part of a team
- Great attention to detail
- Good communication skills
- Time management and prioritisation skills in order to balance the demands of work and college
