Excellent opportunity in research for High School Seniors and College Students seeking to gain real world experience with a premiere employer as an Animal Care Technician in Madison, WI! Your role is vital to improving the health of family, friends and animals. Our work in developing new pharmaceutical solutions has an incredible impact on the quality of lives of millions worldwide.

Schedule/Hours:

This is an On-Call position. Ideally looking to start training in the month of January.

  • Training: 4-6 weeks.
  • Work hours: 6:30 am-3:15 pm CST
  • Schedule:

    • At minimum 1 full weekend per month.
    • Full-time, day shift Monday through Friday during summer months with expectation to pick up a weekend on a frequency of at least 1 per month.
    • Option to pick up more hours during school breaks (not required).

Pay Rate: $18 per hour. Overtime paid for hours worked over 40 hours per week.

Job Summary:

  • Collects, documents, and manages pertinent data in compliance with appropriate SOPs, GLPs, and regulatory agency guidelines.
  • Provides general maintenance and cleaning of cages, laboratory equipment, animal rooms, and animal facilities.
  • Monitors animal health and welfare in compliance with the Animal Welfare Act and helps maintain facilities for AAALAC compliance.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Maintains, cleans and disinfects animal cages, animal rooms, hallways and non-animal rooms as well as feeders, water bottles, and other supplies as needed. Removes waste and maintains a safe work environment.
  • Learns to assist with inventory of animal feed, bedding, toys, other cage equipment, and supplies.
  • Reviews study plans as needed to perform job functions.
  • Develops basic knowledge of animal behavior and restraint techniques. Provides animals with food, water, toys, housing, etc. according to company standards, and handles them humanely.
  • Reads and understands SOPs, policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Works across groups and species when necessary. May work independently and on non-routine procedures as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as needed.
  • Learns to collect and review data - manually or by appropriate computer software - and maintains well documented laboratory records according to GLPs.

Education Recommended (not required): High school diploma or equivalent

Experience: This is an entry level position with no related experience being required.
