The Role

Infrastructure Specialists at Kyndryl are project-based subject matter experts in all things infrastructure - good at providing analysis, documenting and diagraming work for hand-off, offering timely solutions, and generally "figuring it out." This is a hands-on role where your feel for the interaction between a system and its environment will be invaluable to every one of your clients.

There are two halves to this role: First, contributing to current projects where you analyze problems and tech issues, offer solutions, and test, modify, automate, and integrate systems. And second, long-range strategic planning of IT infrastructure and operational execution. This role isn't specific to any one platform, so you'll need a good feel for all of them. And because of this, you'll experience variety and growth at Kyndryl that you won't find anywhere else.

As an OpenStack Architect and Engineer, he/she will be responsible for designing, deploying, managing, and optimizing private cloud infrastructure solutions using OpenStack and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure high availability, scalability, and performance of the cloud environment, catering to the business's evolving needs. Also troubleshoot issues, automate infrastructure processes, and provide strategic direction for future cloud deployments.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Open Source & OpenStack Architecture

  • Design, develop, and implement open-source cloud solutions with OpenStack, Kubernetes, and containerized platforms.
  • Architect highly scalable, secure, and resilient private/public cloud infrastructure aligned with business goals.
  • Integrate open-source tools and frameworks into cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Develop governance models and best practices for open-source adoption.

2. Deployment & Optimization

  • Deploy, configure, and manage OpenStack services (Nova, Neutron, Swift, Glance, Keystone, Cinder).
  • Optimize performance, scalability, and security of open-source architectures.
  • Implement automation, orchestration, and CI/CD pipelines for cloud workloads.

3. Security & Compliance

  • Implement security best practices in open-source environments, including IAM, encryption, and network segmentation.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and data protection regulations.
  • Collaborate with security teams to enhance threat detection and mitigation.

4. Cloud Integration & Migration

  • Support hybrid/multi-cloud strategies, integrating OpenStack with AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
  • Migrate workloads from legacy systems to open-source cloud platforms.
  • Work with network, storage, and application teams to enable seamless cloud adoption.

5. Collaboration & Mentorship

  • Work closely with developers, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to enable open-source adoption.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, ensuring skill development in open-source technologies.
  • Contribute to the open-source community, participating in forums and contributing to projects.

Required Technical and Professional Experience

  • Deep expertise in OpenStack architecture, deployment, and operations.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux administration (RHEL, Ubuntu, CentOS).
  • Proficiency in Kubernetes, Docker, and container orchestration.
  • Hands-on experience with Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, or Chef for automation.
  • Networking expertise with SDN, vLANs, VPNs, and OpenStack Neutron.
  • Experience with Ceph, Swift, and distributed storage solutions.
  • Solid understanding of cloud-native security and IAM frameworks.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages like Python, Bash, or Go.

Preferred Technical and Professional Experience

  • Experience with hybrid cloud solutions integrating OpenStack with AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD, and GitOps workflows.
  • OpenStack or cloud-related certifications
  • Contributions to open-source projects or active participation in communities.
