Mainframe Senior MQ zOS Administrator

We are looking for an experienced Senior IBM MQ on z/OS Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining IBM MQ solutions on z/OS, ensuring high availability, performance, and security. You will collaborate with infrastructure teams, developers, and business stakeholders to optimize messaging systems, troubleshoot complex issues, and contribute to strategic improvements.

You will work on complex, enterprise-grade IBM MQ solutions, being part of a collaborative, innovative, and experienced Mainframe team.

Not only will you be responsible for ensuring the security of our computer systems, but you'll also work closely with other IT professionals to design and implement cutting-edge technology that keeps Kyndryl ahead of the curve.

In this role, you'll provide the underlying Mainframe operating system platform programming and DBDC subsystem programming support that forms the backbone of our applications. You'll guide functional objectives on technologies and make use of your expert knowledge to drive solutions to complex problems.

As a leader in this field, you'll also be expected to conduct RCA discussions for the products you work on and provide ongoing technical and operational guidance to lead professional work teams. You may even manage departments on a national or international level, defining objectives and managing resources to ensure the success of your projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, configure, and manage IBM MQ on z/OS to ensure reliable messaging and integration
• Implement best practices for MQ administration, security, and performance tuning
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve MQ-related incidents and performance issues
• Work closely with development and operations teams to support application integrations
• Perform queue manager migrations, upgrades, and maintenance activities
• Install, upgrade, implement RSUs for MQ zOS using SMP/E
• Automate administrative tasks and improve operational efficiency using scripting (e.g., REXX)
• Ensure compliance with enterprise security policies, including TLS encryption and authentication mechanisms
• Support disaster recovery planning and testing for MQ environments
• Provide mentorship and knowledge transfer to junior team members

Required Skills and Experience

• Extensive experience with IBM MQ on z/OS in an enterprise environment
• Deep understanding of z/OS system internals, including JES2/3, RACF, and SMF logging
• Expertise in MQ clustering, queue sharing groups (QSGs), and workload balancing
• Strong skills in diagnosing MQ problems using tools like MQ Explorer, IBM SupportPac tools, and Mainframe logs
• Experience implementing TLS/SSL encryption, certificates, and security best practices for MQ
• Proficiency in automation and scripting (e.g., REXX, JCL, Python, or Shell scripting)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to issue resolution
• Excellent communication skills to collaborate across teams and document solutions effectively
• Fluency in English

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Familiarity with IMS, DB2, and other z/OS subsystems
• Experience with IBM MQ Advanced for z/OS and MQ Appliance
• Knowledge of Kafka, IBM Integration Bus (IIB) for hybrid messaging solutions
• Familiarity with ITIL processes for Incident and Change Management
