As the Head of Government Affairs and Policy for Canada, you'll be responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with government officials that align with our corporate goals. You'll use your deep understanding of government policies to assess their impact on our company, customers, and employees, providing objective recommendations on our engagement strategies and then executing upon them.

Key Responsibilities:

Relationship Building: You will be at the forefront of establishing, maintaining, and prioritizing relationships with government officials - both at the federal and key provincial levels. Your role will involve promoting policies that are aligned with our corporate goals, aiming to ensure our interests and points of view are well-represented and advocated for within the governmental sphere. Your ability to build and sustain these relationships will be crucial in advancing our strategic objectives.

Policy Analysis: In this role, you will leverage your comprehensive understanding of government policies - and the processes behind them - to assess their potential impact on our company, customers, and employees. You will provide objective recommendations on whether and how the company should engage in influencing these policies during both the deliberative and implementation processes. Your insights will be vital in helping the company navigate the regulatory landscape effectively.

Opportunity Assessment: You will review government programming and stated procurement needs to determine if they present opportunities that align with our business and policy goals. By providing thorough assessments, you will help identify and capitalize on opportunities that can drive our business forward. Your evaluations will ensure that we are strategically positioned to benefit from relevant government initiatives.

Strategic Framework: You will establish and lead an internal process framework for determining our engagement strategies. This involves coordinating with various internal stakeholders to develop a cohesive approach to government engagement. Your leadership will be essential in ensuring that our strategies are well-defined, aligned with our goals, and effectively implemented.

Stakeholder Engagement: Leading our external engagement efforts, you will interact with relevant government and non-government stakeholders. Your role will involve representing the company's interests, building alliances, and fostering collaborative relationships. Your ability to engage effectively with these stakeholders will be key to advancing our policy objectives and ensuring our voice is heard in important discussions.

Who You Are

Job Qualifications

  • 7-10 years experience as government affairs professional in a corporate setting
  • Bilingual Oral and Written in English and French
  • Strong communication and presentation skills - for both internal and external audiences
  • Willingness to travel to/from Ottawa and provincial capitals, as needed
