The Role

  • Serve as the primary technical expert for AS/400 systems, providing guidance and support to IT teams and stakeholders.
  • Design, implement, and maintain AS/400 infrastructure, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Perform system upgrades, patches, and configurations in accordance with best practices and business requirements.
  • Monitor AS/400 system performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure uptime and reliability.
  • Collaborate with application developers and system users to optimize AS/400 applications and workflows.
  • Develop and implement disaster recovery plans and procedures for AS/400 systems.
  • Evaluate and recommend hardware and software upgrades to improve system efficiency and scalability.
  • Provide training and support to IT staff and end-users on AS/400 system functionalities and best practices.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in AS/400 technology to recommend innovative solutions.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience with IBM AS/400 systems administration and management.
  • Proficiency in AS/400 operating systems (OS/400, IBM i), including CL programming and system security.
  • Strong understanding of AS/400 hardware components, such as Power Systems servers and disk storage.
  • Experience with AS/400 networking, including TCP/IP configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • IBM Certified Specialist - AS/400 Administrator or similar certification.
  • Experience with AS/400 database management systems, such as DB2/400.
  • Knowledge of IBM Rational Developer for i (RDi) or similar development tools.
  • Familiarity with ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) principles
