Overview
Reporting to the National Manager for Cloud Services, the Infrastructure Engineer (IE) is responsible for onsite support of the infrastructure systems and services that support the business and its client, as well as supporting our field and support engineering teams. This includes servers, storage, network, infrastructure applications, security, and related services. This position is responsible for entire lifecycle from planning to development to implementation to operations and optimization.
The role is critical to support core business functions and services. Continuous improvement and a holistic approach are key qualities for the role. This role demands a high level of independence, volunteering for new responsibilities, and creating SOPs and best practice documentation that is well written and clear. Enthusiasm around certain areas of expertise, and a desire to 'own' those areas by establishing best practices, leading teams focused on those areas, and volunteering to take on additional responsibilities are traits in-line with this role.

Problem Solving and Analysis:
The IE is responsible for systems and services that are both wide impacting and complex in nature. When issues come up, the IE must consider the impact of both the problem and solution from many different angles. The IE is also responsible for gauging the risks associated with regular maintenance and day-to-day activities. The analysis will lead to contingency plans that weigh the different approaches. Solutions must also consider the impact on both internal and external users of the applications and services.
Independence:
The IE must exhibit a high degree of initiative. In addition, the position must maintain alignment and make judgments as appropriate. Timeliness of decisions is critical and must be effectively communicated to those affected. The IE must have self-discipline to ensure they are working toward an established standard. If one does not exist, the Infrastructure Engineer will document a draft standard and then start the process to establish it.
Decision Making:
The IE carries the responsibility to contribute to decisions for the infrastructure. Part of the responsibility is to drive towards decisions and move the effort forward as planned. In many ways, the IE may be responsible for decisions; however, they need to ensure alignment with the team, markets, and other stakeholders. Decisions are made daily, and the Infrastructure Engineer needs to determine when to seek supervisory assistance for additional guidance. The Engineer must defend and document decisions, strategies and options to the team and senior management. The IE works independently, but as a team to make decisions. Decisions should be based on established guidelines. Decisions outside of the established guidelines and precedence guidelines should be consulted with senior management.
Risk Mitigation and Communications:
The IE is a highly visible position within the company. The systems and services that the IE manages and decisions that are made affect the entire company and its clients on a major scale. Decisions made by the Infrastructure Engineer can affect the quality and availability of services to clients. The IE serves as the key conduit between many disparate groups. These groups include Information Technology, Central Services, Field organizations, Konica Minolta, All Covered markets, and external resources (contractors, vendors, etc.). These interactions take place daily. Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills are required.
