Location: Onsite - Kohler, WI

Opportunity

To develop, implement or recommend appropriate actions to management which will enhance the skills, performance, and safety of maintenance and skilled trades associates. This includes the coordination of the Kohler internal skilled trades training program.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Recommend and develop/design programs and training/retraining courses which will meet the learning objectives for associates by delivering core training for skilled trades associates, obtaining proficiency and exploring future growth opportunities.
  • Support Applicant testing/qualification program for Kohler-WI and other US sites.
  • Assess training needs through surveys, interviews with associates, focus groups, or consultation with department management, instructors, or customer representatives.
  • Work with business partners to conduct needs analysis, develop learning objectives and provide consultation services to them to define competency requirements for necessary training for the associate(s) and the department(s) on business specific initiatives, regulations, systems, and projects
  • Research training materials from a variety of vendors and choose appropriate materials based on business need.
  • Work with clients including desired training outcomes, fees, or expenses.
  • Evaluate modes of training delivery, such as in-person or virtual to optimize training effectiveness, training costs, or environmental impacts.
  • Responsible for ensuring all maintenance areas on site have the tools and knowledge available to complete all training requirements.
  • Work directly with New skilled trades associates and their direct supervision to develop individual training programs based on their skills and abilities.
  • Schedule regular update meetings with the associate and supervisor to review training progress and modify training plan as needed. 
  • Monitor, evaluate, record training activities & program effectiveness.
  • Conducts audits to ensure proper training is being completed per prescribed protocol.
  • Develop alternative training methods if expected improvements are not seen.
  • Provide feedback to department management concerning associate/trainee performance.
  • Manage the overall Apprenticeship program for Kohler – WI
  • Assist skilled trades apprentices, mentors & supervisors throughout the program, including but not limited to: class/work schedules, progress reviews, and training progression.
  • Work directly with CESA6 and high schools to bring in skilled trades youth apprentices.
  • Serve as skilled trades High School Co-op coordinator.
  • Work with other Kohler Co. plants and local community resources to design/develop training courses/programs to aid in improving, standardizing, and expediting our training process.
  • Work with individual department trainers or designees to ensure common training and testing is carried out in a standardized manner and schedule.
  • Ensure a standardized system is utilized across Maintenance Departments and other Maintenance Departments across Kohler Co. U.S. sites for all training documentation and storage of records.
  • Conduct and/or facilitate onsite training courses/seminars as needed.
  • Assists in controlling costs and ensures supplies are ordered and used appropriately.
  • Promotes and actively participates in process improvement initiatives to enhance safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Participate in skilled trades recruiting events and outreach programs.
  • Lead efforts on behalf of Kohler Co. on Red Raider Manufacturing committee.  
  • All other duties and tasks as assigned.

Skills/Requirements

  • Associates degree in Industrial Education or related field is required, bachelor’s or higher degree is preferred. A minimum of five (5) years of experience in an educator position/role leading training and development programs for employees in a manufacturing / industrial environment or related is preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Passion to support maintenance upskilling
  • Proficient computer skills, including (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Strong communication/presentation/organizational skills
  • Position also requires some domestic travel.
