As a Workforce Data Attorney in the Human Resources Law Practice Group, you will work with Human Resources and data innovation professionals, legal colleagues, control partners and business leaders to advise on the firm's human capital strategies and work to improve the Human Resources function across the globe to deliver a first-rate employee experience. Typical activities include assessing risk and mitigants in connection with innovation and evolution of the firm's data collection, systems and storage, use, classification and retention. Partner closely with the Human Resources Data function, and data use requestors across HR and the firm, in a rapidly evolving legal and technology landscape. You will have an active role in the assessment of data uses including employment and related privacy considerations. Job Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Human Resources to assess risk, develop strategy and formulate our data approach as well as to provide legal advice and develop as a legal counselor
  • Work with the Human Resources Product Lines. Focus on understanding the business case, anticipating risks, delivering solutions and imagining a better and more productive employee experience using data, digital, machine learning and analytics to promote decision making
  • Monitor changes in global legislation and regulatory guidelines concerning data, emerging technology and Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, including European Union Artificial Intelligence Act, US federal and state laws and guidance.
  • Work with multiple internal colleagues and clients across disciplines and HR Products to craft solutions
  • Provide strategic advice and counsel on all types of data related risks and challenges faced by the firm
  • Advise on the creation and management of data retention schedules and data protection measures
  • As necessary, instruct, manage and lead outside Counsel who may help with discerning applicable rules & regulations, reviewing draft documents and formulating strategy
  • From time to time, handle regulatory inquiries or manage litigation, contentious regulatory matters and disputes, either as stand-alone matters or as part of a wider team including outside Counsel

Required qualifications, capabilities and skills:

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • Active license to practice law or to be licensed immediately in jurisdiction
  • At least 5 years of experience as a practicing attorney
  • Experience in global data and privacy legal framework, AI/ML, employment law and knowledge of GDPR, European Union AI Act, HIPAA
  • Interest in and understanding of the evolving role of Artificial Intelligence in digital transformation in human resources
  • Ability to understand business issues, and help to formulate workable solutions that mitigate risk to the firm
  • Ability to communicate, write and interact effectively with all levels of personnel and management, including senior executives
  • Ability to provide firm guidance on complex and sensitive issues with the appropriate balance of commercial risk
  • Proven facility with Controls and Judgment through complex roles

Preferred qualifications, capabilities and skills:

  • Interest and knowledge of healthcare innovation topics and related data-use considerations
  • Prior counseling through a digital transformation
  • Willingness to learn from business subject experts with legal view

Candidates must be in compliance with all relevant licensing requirements including the requirements of the jurisdiction where the role will be located prior to the commencement of employment.
