As a Private Bank Lawyer, AVP within the JPMorgan Private Bank in Asia, you will advise front office client advisors, risk, middle office, and project teams, particularly in the lending business.. You will collaborate with global teams, keeping stakeholders informed of regulatory changes, and playing a key role in our dynamic and innovative environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Advise front office client advisors, risk, middle office and project teams servicing the JPMorgan Private Bank in Asia, in particular, the lending business.
  • Provide support on legal, regulatory and cross-border aspects of credit offerings, including portfolio-backed lending, mortgages and bilateral and syndicated structured financing solutions to a regional client base, including individuals, personal holding companies, trusts, charities and partnerships.
  • Provide legal and regulatory support on wealth advisory, insurance referrals, custody and deposits offerings
  • Review and advise on account documentation, including powers of attorney, non-disclosure agreements, credit and security agreements, trust agreements, entity authority documents, estate documents, and retirement account documents.
  • Provide legal and regulatory advice with respect to new business initiatives, including digital initiatives and platform transformation projects.
  • Advise on legal and regulatory developments, including consumer legislation and jurisdictional reviews.

Required qualifications, capabilities and skills

  • Law degree and membership in jurisdictional organization. Candidates must be in compliance with all relevant licensing requirements including the requirements of the jurisdiction where the role will be located prior to commencement of employment. Minimum of 3 years of experience gained at a top tier law firm or at a financial institution.
  • Credit, Lending, or Banking transaction experience required.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English, with excellent English writing and oral communication skills.
  • As this is a high-touch role, you must be a team player who can collaborate and communicate effectively with attorneys and business stakeholders and control functions (for example, Compliance and Credit Risk).
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work in a fast-paced, complex business environment and maintain communication with attorneys and other stakeholders regarding project status and estimated completion timelines.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities and skills

  • Knowledge of the wealth management industry, cross-border licensing and marketing regimes applicable to wealth management products and services would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of APAC or UK-based financial services law, banking and finance and processes preferred.
  • Experience studying or working in a common law jurisdiction.
