An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic individual to join our EMEA VAT team as a Vice-President supporting the Commercial and Investment Bank's Markets trading business. The role offers the chance to work at the intersection of business, finance and technology in one of the largest global banks delivering VAT risk management and advice. The successful candidate will become part of a large and expert in-house team managing VAT risk across the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East, Africa) in close collaboration with other tax disciplines. This is an unrivalled opportunity to develop deep VAT technical and business experience from the inside, supported by expert colleagues. The position is based in London and offers a hybrid working model. The candidate will report to the VAT lead for the Markets trading business.

Job Responsibilities
- Understanding the transactions / products of the Markets trading business.
- Identifying and managing VAT risk issues end to end in the business delivery.
- Developing knowledge of UK and other EMEA VAT regimes applicable to these transactions / products (both tax technical and practical) and staying abreast of changes in VAT legislation, ensuring the business remains compliant.
- Partnering with the Indirect Tax Technology team in the advancement of the long-term VAT technology strategy in relation to the Markets business including identifying and supporting opportunities for enhanced systematic automation and key data requirements.
- Advising / training internal stakeholders in the business and support teams e.g. teams processing trading expenses.
- Understanding expense processes and working with finance, business, and tax teams to advise VAT recovery and compliance processes.
- Reviewing tax compliance submissions for dedicated markets related entities.
- Communicating VAT risks succinctly and clearly to non-tax colleagues.
- Escalating risks internally within the team as appropriate.
- Partnering with tax colleagues from other disciplines to syndicate issues and comprehensively but efficiently manage tax risk.
- Working with external tax advisors, as well as partnering internally with global Corporate Tax colleagues (including colleagues covering directs taxes and transfer pricing) and non-tax colleagues (such as the Business, Legal, Finance, Operations etc.).
Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's or master's degree.
- VAT advisory experience preferably at least Manager level at Big 4 or equivalent in-house.
- A detailed understanding of UK / EU VAT principles, with knowledge / experience of VAT issues
- A knowledge of VAT compliance requirements and processes.
- Strong communication and written skills and the ability to work well in a team.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to formulate commercially sound solutions.
- Quick learner with a positive attitude and professionalism.
- Being able to work independently, managing own workload and projects.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Accounting or Tax qualification, e.g. CTA, preferable.
- Financial services sector being desirable
- Functional knowledge of MS Excel, PowerPoint as well as VAT specific technologies and other applications is also desirable.
