Corporate Accounting Policies - Policy Advisor - Sr. Associate

Corporate Accounting Policies (CAP) is an independent accounting advisory function within Corporate Controllers. The remit of Corporate Accounting Policies is to partner with the Lines of Business and Corporate Functions by providing accounting expertise in structured transactions, new products and in the implementation of new accounting standards and policies.

As a Policy Advisor - Sr. Associate within our Corporate Accounting Policies team, you will support the Senior Policy Advisors in providing provide technical accounting advice on large and/or structured transactions, researching existing and proposed accounting standards. You will also review and update accounting policies, and the accounting discussions in certain SEC or other stand-alone filings.

Job responsibilities

  • Draft and update corporate accounting policies and standards
  • Research and provide technical accounting guidance for business- or corporate-aligned transactions, partnering with internal business and finance teams
  • Identify and escalate developments in US GAAP standard setting that may impact the Firm
  • Assist in the implementation of new accounting standards
  • Review relevant sections of SEC or other stand-alone filings, including MD&A and footnotes, and escalate issues
  • Prepare and conduct internal technical accounting education sessions
  • Summarize industry and FASB meeting discussions
  • Attend meetings outside of typical NY time zone hours when time-sensitive issues arise
  • Prepare ad-hoc work product for managers, team members or clients as requested
  • Assist with external auditor's requests

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience researching the FASB codification in order to determine how to account for transactions in one or more of the following areas: financial instruments, consolidation, business combinations, goodwill and other intangible assets, or transfers of financial assets
  • Delivers timely and high quality work consistently over time with a sense of urgency
  • Energetic self-starter motivated to take on additional projects and responsibilities in order to develop the skills and experience necessary for advancement
  • Detail oriented with the ability to understand and analyze complex transactions
  • Team player consistently present and available for clients and team members
  • Strong work ethic
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to clearly and concisely articulate technical accounting issues and conclusions to non-accountants
  • Accounting major and CPA required

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Big Four experience preferred
  • Ideal candidate would have National Office, On-call advisory, or FASB PTA experience
