Are you ready to elevate your tax knowledge of various funds in the region? This role offers a unique opportunity to manage tax compliance oversight of markets, deepening your understanding of tax regulations and their impact on the funds.

As a Fund Tax Associate working in the Asset Management Operations team, you will support the tax affairs of our J.P. Morgan Asset Management Hong Kong Fund Range and provide advisory services to our other Asia Pacific Funds across Japan, China, Taiwan and Australia. Key to your success will be both your technical taxation skills and the ability to engage effectively with key stakeholders. In this varied role, you will assist in covering the full spectrum of tax deliverables on portfolio taxes impacting funds in the region.

In addition, you will support the development and management of our oversight and governance process across Asia Pacific to help identify opportunities to improve and key risk areas that could impact our Asia Pacific business. You will assist in managing tax compliance oversight of markets we invest in to ensure our funds receive the most appropriate tax treatment including the accurate and timely review and completion of tax documents for our Hong Kong Fund Range and the regulatory tax reporting across our Asia Pacific Fund ranges. You will develop and maintain existing internal and external relationships, such as service providers that support our Hong Kong Fund Range.

Job responsibilities:

  • Monitor practical tax developments in different markets and understand how the tax regulations impact operational processes and the funds.
  • Update policies and procedures to comply with the tax regulations and implement and monitor internal controls to ensure tax compliance.
  • Work with technology and intelligent automation tools to help automate processes across Asia Pacific
  • Assist in designing, developing and coordinating the Asia Pacific oversight and governance process relating to tax lifecycle events
  • Provide technical input on any tax-related product or other requests
  • Support the management of outstanding/expiring tax documentation (i.e. US and foreign withholding tax requirements W-8, W-9 as applicable), Documentation for Relief at Source and Reclaims, capital gains tax, financial transaction tax, tax regulatory reporting
  • Ensure close collaboration with the Corporate Actions, Fund Accounting, Trustee and Internal Tax teams
  • Analyze root-cause of recurring issues through regular review of metrics, and assist in developing programmes for service enhancements arising from these figures
  • Continually review operational tax processes to identify areas for enhancement
  • Identify and escalate tax risks and participate in resolution
  • Assist in Fund reviews and ad-hoc global tax projects implementation across the wider business and Internal Tax team

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills:

  • At least a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related disciplines
  • At least 3 years of experience in financial service industry
  • Have an understanding of Hong Kong Mutual funds and taxes impacting global investments
  • Effective communication skills
  • You will be able to give examples of your successful risk awareness, operational control, problem solving and process improvement experience
  • Proven experience within an arena where accuracy is critical within strict deadlines

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills:

  • Strong data management skills will be considered to be an advantage
  • Experience with asset management firms
