I Am Abiomed | I Am Heart Recovery | Patients First!

The Technology Leader position drives technology strategy and execution for the Global and Americas commercial organizations in Abiomed.

This role requires a leader who can combine Information Technology (IT) expertise with knowledge of the healthcare environment to lead groundbreaking change and accelerate business value.

The role requires active engagement and partnership with Abiomed's senior leaders to craft new business model offerings while driving IT enablement of the business. The incumbent must build strong collaborative partnerships with business leaders across the business unit and J&J Technology.

A successful candidate will be able to think strategically as they explore various business problems, define the value propositions, and experiment with users to build the right products that deliver prioritized measurable business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Business & Technology Strategy

• Support vision, align/prioritize business & IT strategies and co-shape strategic demand with the business

• Shape and define annual objectives, roadmaps and outcomes informed by business and technology for selected areas / functions

• Translate business vision/strategies and customer needs to products, empowering products and squads to innovate and create solutions to meet

business / customer / user needs

• Unite varied products into cohesive end-to-end digital business strategies and solutions for function/franchise/region

  • Co-drive continuous improvement and seek opportunities for business process improvement through technology, data and automation. Be a change agent that drives digital transformation.
  • Understand competitive landscape and how competitors use technology.

Value Management

  • Governance and prioritization of the investment processes, and management of the technology budget.

• Define and actively measure the value being created and delivered to customers / users / stakeholders (e.g., define, refine and measure OKRs on a regular cadence)

• Maintain a pulse on performance metrics to focus on business value realization and pull-through, including end user/customer KPIs, product group performance, technical performance (e.g., available / up time), product maturity and revenue/market growth

• Co-create business cases with business partners, supporting socialization and/or funding request activities

• Support selected initiatives and any planning cycles (e.g., BP, JU, NU LRFP)

• Owns budget assigned to scope

Internal and External Partnerships

• Represent J&J in strategic technology discussions with key external and internal stakeholders

• Foster an environment to increase digital acumen and drive data-driven culture for business partners and product teams across markets

• Build strong partnerships and connections with technology providers to shape policies & deliver innovative solutions

Experimentation, Execution & Delivery

• Leverage knowledge of customers/users and broader ecosystem to drive identification / implementation of emerging products based on customers' evolving needs

• Manage delivery and act as product manager when required

• Identify and promote opportunity to leverage cross enterprise platforms

Leadership

• Drive strategic global business strategy and process harmonization opportunities

• Be a change agent, develop and execute change management plans

• Drive talent and culture agenda

• Serve product teams, enabling them to fulfill constantly changing external requirements in real time

• Encourage diverse opinions and constructive conflicts from team members to unleash full potential

• Enable and drive product and user centric mindset, models and delivery creating value for our employees, partners, patients and HCPs

Qualifications

  • A University Degree is required, master's degree is preferred.
  • 9+ years of professional experience is required.
  • At least 3 years in a similar role as a senior manager and as a people manager.
  • A minimum of 3 years running a technology investment portfolio of $2M annually or more.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) are required.
  • The ability to explain digital concepts to senior business partners, as well as business concepts to technologists is required.
  • Demonstrate ability in partnering with partners to generate mutually helpful, long-term opportunities and negotiating outcomes is required.
  • Experience applying lean startup and design thinking principles is required.
  • Experience driving business outcomes through technology and data is required.
  • Validated experience in examining issues, crafting strategy and influencing effectively across a complex organization is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve organizational performance through the application of original thinking to existing and emerging methods, processes, products and services is required.
  • Employing good judgement in figuring out how innovations will be deployed to produce business outcomes is preferred.
