Reporting to the Global Director of Laboratory Strategies and Planning, the Senior Manager is responsible for engineering and facilities guidance for optimization of internal vivarium and in vitro laboratory infrastructure in alignment with Preclinical Sciences & Translational Safety (PSTS) business strategy and initiatives.
Primary responsibilities:
• Internal vivarium and PSTS in vitro laboratory infrastructure strategic & capacity planning in compliance with applicable regulations and institutional standards
• Utilize project management skills to establish clarity in project roles, identify and manage resource requirements, define project deliverables, identify and mitigate risks, measure outcomes and ensure adherence to budget
• Conducts formal project evaluations and develop action plans to optimize operational strategies
• Strongly collaborate with stakeholders, including (internal) business partners (PSTS scientific functions, S&O), E&PS functions (facilities management, project delivery, lab services, space management), Finance, EH&S, IT, Procurement, & Therapeutics Discovery Lab Ops and (external) Avantor, CBRE, JLL and construction management firms to assess as needed, project status, budget, schedules, etc.
• Resolve escalations in a prompt manner to enable the function/business to deliver on commitments
• Capital planning & execution liaison with E&PS PD, Lab Ops for internal PSTS projects
• Review and approval of PSTS related facility project design and commissioning documentation
• Be on call participant for vivarium and laboratory infrastructure and critical equipment alarm notification and response
• Support a Culture of Care that exemplifies the highest standards in laboratory animal welfare
Qualifications
Education:
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or related subject areas is required
• Masters degree in management, project management, animal sciences, or related subject areas and/or other advanced degrees is preferred
Required:
• Minimum of 5 years of pharmaceutical/biotechnology/engineering or related experience in drug development
• Strong knowledge of process and product improvement methodologies
• Proven ability to manage and work with large, complex, international teams
• Outstanding diplomacy and negotiating skills
• Compliance and strong working knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements, such as USDA, FDA, GLPs, GMPs, applicable animal welfare guidelines, and/or AAALAC
• Travel and "off-core business hours" meeting participation as needed
• Ability to wear all Personal Protective Equipment required to perform work tasks
• Applicable vaccinations may be required for entry and work within specific laboratory and vivarium spaces
This is an essential personnel role. Essential Personnel are defined as the staff who are required to report to their designated work location, to ensure the operation of essential functions or departments during an emergency, as determined by J&J, or when the business has suspended operations. There are some individuals who may be required to perform essential services remotely and those individuals will be identified in advance and notified by their supervisors, but in most cases Essential Personnel are required to be on-site during an emergency or suspension of operations.
