The successful candidate will actively engage in early discovery efforts to support Johnson & Johnson's Neuropsychiatry discovery strategy. The candidate will perform cellular, biochemical and molecular biology experiments for understanding the function of new targets and their involvement in signaling pathways related to disease pathology, and use relevant cell lines, primary cell cultures, tissue slices and induced pluripotent stem cells. They will be responsible for the planning and hands-on execution of studies related to validation of new targets, and oversee all aspects of the generation, analysis and accurate recording of data in compliance with data integrity requirements and interpret and effectively present the findings to the project team. These efforts will help reveal underlying mechanistic disease biology and aid the development of novel disease-modifying therapies as well as in the validation of potential new drug targets for the treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, perform and interpret biochemical, cell and molecular biology experiments, troubleshoot and refine experimental protocols, to support target discovery and validation activities for Neuropsychiatry.
  • Design and conduct in vitro cell biology studies to understand target biology and validate novel targets using genetic and/or chemical biology approaches.
  • Collaborate with computational scientists, biologists, and vendors and work within an extended team environment to support progress towards the project and team goals.
  • Prepare and record experimental reports that include detailed methods and materials, raw data, data analyses and graphs, and conclusions in the electronic laboratory notebook.
  • Follow laboratory safety and data integrity guidelines.
  • Present experimental results during group and project team meetings, and to internal and external scientific community through presentations and publications.


Qualifications

Education:

  • a PhD degree with 0-3 years postdoctoral experience OR a Master's degree with 8+ years of experience OR a Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of experience in Biochemistry, Neuroscience, Molecular Biology or a similar field is required.

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in mammalian cell cultures including cell model generation and assay development.
  • Broad experience in cell and molecular biology, and biochemical techniques, such as gene over-expression/knockdown for target validation, immunofluorescence staining, microscopy, Western blotting and RT-PCR.
  • Solid planning and organizational skills with a meticulous nature.
  • This individual must be a highly collaborative scientist who will be comfortable in both an individual contributor role and as part of a multidisciplinary research team.
  • High motivation to contribute to research efforts to improve outcomes for patients suffering from psychiatric diseases is required.

Preferred:

  • Expertise in evaluating signal transduction pathways is highly preferred.
  • Experience in functional genomics techniques is preferred.
  • Demonstrated previous work with in vitro models of brain disorders would be highly advantageous.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $105,000 to $169,050. California Bay Area - The anticipated base pay range for this position is $121,000 to $194,350. The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.

    • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays - up to 13 days per calendar year of Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
