We are seeking an experienced, highly skilled, and motivated analytical and separation scientist to work in our laboratories in La Jolla, CA, for the position of Senior Scientist in Discovery Chemistry. This position will require the candidate to possess and leverage deep knowledge and capabilities in Analytical Chemistry and Separation Sciences as part of the Analytical Chemistry and High Throughput Purification (AC-HTP) team to provide support to discovery chemists. Strong communication skills and the ability to thrive in a team and results oriented environment are key attributes. The candidate must also have strong interpersonal skills to influence in a collaborative multidisciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Apply chiral and achiral chromatography methods and capabilities to accelerate Janssen small molecule discovery research.
- Evaluate and implement new chromatography methods and apply them across different modalities and/or capabilities, such as small molecule drug discovery, peptide drug discovery, DNA-encoded library, target protein degradation and Direct-to-biology.
- Present at internal and external scientific meetings as appropriate.
- Work with the vendors, when needed, to implement new instrumentation and maintain the smooth operation of instruments.
- Routinely interact with colleagues from therapeutic area project teams and core technology groups to develop and implement strategies on analytical chemistry to help advance programs.
Qualifications
Education:
- A minimum of an M.S. degree in chemistry or related discipline and a minimum of 4years industry experience OR 0-2 years of experience with PhD degree is required
Experience and Skills:
Required:
- Capability in analytical and chromatography method development and optimization to characterize synthetic medicinal compounds is required
- In-depth knowledge and extensive experience in Analytical and Separation Sciences is required
- Expert knowledge of modern analytical and purification techniques, such as UPLC/MS and SFC/MS is required
- Strong problem-solving skills for developing creative, innovative solutions, and meeting project objectives are required
Preferred:
- Prior experience on analytical chemistry for beyond Role of 5 molecules is preferred
- Demonstrated experience with lab automation and high throughput assaying is preferred
- Demonstrated experience with other analytical chemistry skills, such as NMR data analysis, is preferred
- Proven track record in chromatography, such as presentations at major conferences and/or publications on peer-reviewed journals, is preferred
The anticipated base pay range for this position is $105,000 - $169,050 USD
The compensation and benefits information set forth in this posting applies to candidates hired in the United States. Candidates hired outside the United States will be eligible for compensation and benefits in accordance with their local market.
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/ performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.

- Vacation - up to 120 hours per calendar year
- Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington - up to 56 hours per calendar year
- Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays - up to 13 days per calendar year
- Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
