Overview

Provides scientific direction and leadership of research and development activities and acts as Subject Matter Authority in support of selected product development projects. Leads the work of laboratory scientists and technicians within a designated area of responsibility, and coordinates activities with external contract laboratories and manufacturing sites. Responsible for department budget and equipment. Hires, motivates, develops, and mentors staff to provide employee growth. Presents on programs at senior management meetings and ensures the scientific integrity and quality of all data produced. May represent company in external forums pertaining to subject matter expertise. Under limited supervision, and in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, this position will include:

  • Lead, manage, and develop associates.
  • Lead research projects and find opportunities for improvements to achieve business goals. Ensure project timelines and all required project milestones are met. Review and approve documentation and data, including test method development and validation, claims support, stability data, preparation of research reports and other documentation for internal use and government submission.
  • Assess, build, and maintain organizational and technical capabilities.
  • Coordinate and lead resources and work efforts necessary to achieving group and business goals and objectives while mitigating risks.
  • Provide strategic and technical leadership.
  • Lead and direct research-related activities to ensure programs generate high quality and timely results and provide excellent products and services to team members. At this level, the position has a greater degree of impact on the business results and responsibility for managing a group of professionals.
  • Develop and review project plans for new product development and life-cycle management of existing products.
  • Review and evaluate procedures and protocols to ensure activities comply with industry, company, and regulatory expectations and requirements for safety and efficacy.
  • Provide leadership for internal and external audits.
  • Cultivate collaboration with R&D teams.
  • Lead efforts to create innovative solutions and processes.
  • Maintain company policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain departmental budget.
  • Responsible for communicating business-related issues or opportunities to next management level.
  • Responsible for ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures and those related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices.
  • Performs other duties assigned as needed.
  • Actively participate in Advanced Evaluation (R&D Testing Group) Leadership Team


Qualifications

Education:

• M.A./M.S. in Microbiology or Biology with a minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience is required.

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • Laboratory management experience in a BSL-2 lab
  • GxP management experience, including audit participation

Preferred:

  • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience with medical device, pharmaceutical and/or diagnostic development
  • Experience in the Medical Device industry.
  • Experience with medical or industrial antimicrobial applications.
  • Extensive knowledge and expertise in the field of surgical site infection.
  • Strong understanding antibacterial technologies

Other:

  • This position is based in Raritan, NJ and may require up to 10% (Domestic/International) travel.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is [$135,500] to [$223,000]

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/ performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.
