The Principal Scientist, Cell Therapy Molecular Design position in the Cell Therapy Platform & Discovery group of Therapeutics Discovery offers an exciting opportunity to help develop novel Cell & Gene Therapies for unmet medical needs. This role will specifically focus on the design and generation of high-quality plasmids to support the use of engineered lentiviral vectors (LVV) for gene delivery to T cells in cancer therapies. We seek a highly motivated researcher with a solid background in molecular cloning and gene regulation to lead our high-throughput plasmid design initiatives and drive innovative discovery programs. Primary responsibilities:
- Oversee plasmid generation to deliver high-quality vectors supporting multiple cell therapy programs in a timely manner
- Advance lentiviral expression cassette systems to incorporate complex engineering features aimed at enhancing therapeutic efficacy and safety
- Grow the efficiency and scale of plasmid generation capabilities by establishing high-throughput and automated processes
- Establish relationships with external vendors to support molecular biology needs
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Discovery, CMC, and Regulatory groups to ensure alignment of Molecular Design with overarching therapeutic strategy
- Execute research timelines to meet program and corporate objectives and deliver quality data
- Contribute to a collaborative, creative, and rigorous culture of scientific discovery
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Gene Therapy, Cell Biology, or related field with 2+ years of experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry; OR BS or MS with 6-8 years of related experience is required.
- Deep expertise in molecular biology, including plasmid cloning, scale-up, sequencing, and QC, is required
- Expertise engineering gene regulation systems for mammalian cells is required
- Experience managing people is required and experience managing small teams responsible for supporting multiple project teams is preferred
- Strong critical, scientific, and strategic thinking skills are required
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects in parallel and meet timelines, are required
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams is required
- Experience working with high-throughput automation is preferred
- This role is based in Spring House, PA
