Position Summary

The Materials Engineering Director will work with the Senior Director of Process Engineering at Johnson & Johnson Vision. This strategic leadership role is critical in supervising Materials Engineering activities across our facilities in Jacksonville, Florida; Anasco, Puerto Rico; Uppsala, Sweden; Groningen, Netherlands; and Limerick, Ireland. The director will coordinate multi-functional teams to drive product and materials development, ensuring alignment with our objectives and maintaining high-quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Provide visionary direction for Materials Engineering initiatives across multiple global sites and takes and approves initiatives and high-level strategies for Material Engineering schematics.
  • Business Strategy Contribution: Actively participate in developing strategies to ensure timely delivery of high-quality products to our customers.
  • Multi-functional Coordination: Collaborate with manufacturing teams to enhance material and product development in line with organizational objectives
  • Project Management: Successfully lead multiple projects while balancing day-to-day responsibilities in Materials Engineering.
  • Supply Chain Optimization: Collaborate to develop optimal product and platform materials enhancing supply chain performance concerning quality, cost, and delivery timelines.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all Engineering standard operating procedures and protocols are consistently in compliance with federal and local regulatory statutes.
  • Talent Development: Lead and mentor a complementary team of Materials Engineers, fostering capabilities development across engineering and manufacturing functions.
  • New Product Introduction (NPI): Liaise with R&D Materials groups to prepare for engineering readiness ahead of commercialization.
  • Engineering Program Administration: Ensure the application of meticulous technical standards and sound engineering principles throughout all projects.
  • Product Change Control: Be responsible for raw material changes orchestrated by quality improvements and standard methodologies.
  • Standards and Risk Management: Drive the establishment of standards related to problem solving, risk assessments, design methodologies and resource management
  • Multi-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with key functions including Supply Chain Engineering, R&D Materials, Quality, and Procurement to build alignment and support.


Qualifications

Qualifications

Education: A minimum of a Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent University degree in Engineering or related technical field required. Advanced degree preferred

Required:

  • Minimum ten (10) years of relevant professional work experience
  • Manufacturing, engineering, R&D, technical development, or quality-related area experience.
  • People management experience, demonstrating success in performance development and team management.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills to navigate multi-functional management environment effectively.
  • Strong understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
  • Knowledge of equipment and process validation procedures
  • Validated leadership qualities are crucial: resilience, tenacity, motivation, conscientiousness, and self-direction.
  • Ability to lead medium-complexity technical issues and adapt to changing environments.

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated capability to lead remote teams across multiple facilities and countries.

Other:

  • May require up to 25% domestic and/or international travel to other locations and sites.
