Role Purpose:
To bridge the gap between business functions and IT to improve the agile and sustainable development of business-critical tools and platforms that will empower scientists to harness technology effectively and propel innovation in our small molecule and biologics research. The successful candidate will provide strategic oversight for high-priority business/IT projects, ensure seamless communication, and strengthen collaborations between functions in Therapeutics Discovery and IT. They will focus on the strategic alignment of IT initiatives with business objectives and make sure that our technological capabilities are fully leveraged to meet business objectives, thereby increasing operational efficiency and accelerating timelines for tool/platform development and deployment.
Primary responsibilities:
- Act as a liaison between business units and IT to ensure clear communication and understanding of needs and capabilities
- Work with business leaders to identify priorities and seek and maintain alignment of IT initiatives with business goals
- Monitor business-relevant IT projects and offer strategic guidance and oversight
- In partnership with IT, evaluate the timely delivery and impact of IT projects and adjust projects as necessary
- Oversee indirect team members within a matrix organizational structure
- Partner with colleagues in IT to guide business functions through the adoption of new technologies
- Foster a culture of partnership and mutual respect between teams
Qualifications
Education:
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field with experience in life sciences is required
• Master's degree is preferred
Required:
• Minimum of 8 years of professional experience following the completion of a degree
• Professional experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical sector
• Sound understanding of data/software engineering concepts, with a particular focus on database and software lifecycle management
• Proficiency in IT architecture and have an understanding of how different IT components work together to support business objectives
• Solid knowledge of non-functional requirements of software systems
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
Preferred:
• Track record in project management
• Experience working in a matrix environment and leading cross-functional teams
• Strong knowledge of at least one scientific programming language, e.g., python or R
• Working knowledge of HPC, cloud-based and GPU-accelerated compute platforms
• Solid understanding of MLOps and DevOps concepts
• Experience with data analytics platforms such as Spotfire
• Familiarity with:
o Cheminformatics toolkits such as rkdit
o Computational chemistry software, e.g., software from MOE, Schroedinger, and OpenEye
o Workflow tools such as KNIME
o ML workflow management tools
