Johnson and Johnson is currently seeking a Global Director, Laboratory Services. The position can be located in the US (Spring House, PA; Malvern, PA; La Jolla, CA, Cambridge, MA) or EMEA (Beerse, Belgium).

The Global Director, Laboratory Services will be responsible for design, oversight, and flawless execution of the enterprise J&J Laboratory Services program, serving the Innovative Medicine R&D, Supply Chain, and MedTech organizations. The Laboratory Services program delivers strategic and operational value for stakeholders via central oversight of lab equipment maintenance (ELIS program), lab support contractor services, and point-of-use consumables management.

Leveraging a strong laboratory and operations background, the candidate will be responsible for translating a deep understanding of scientific and business objectives into a comprehensive solution that delivers on the needs of program stakeholders, which include scientists, operations leads, and departmental budget owners. Key responsibilities include building strong internal stakeholder relationships, external partner & alliance management, program budget oversight & stewardship, project management, contract negotiation, evaluating & implementing technology solutions, and people leadership. Additionally, this candidate will play a critical role in driving Laboratory Services-related enterprise initiatives focused on cost reduction, process efficiency, and positive scientist experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and translate a deep understand of stakeholder scientific/business strategies and needs into a rolling 3-year strategic roadmap for Laboratory Services that optimally supports scientists, operations teams, and budget owners.
  • Oversee a team of regional leads that have local responsibility for delivery of Laboratory Services program. Enable these regional leads to partner effectively with vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure appropriate functioning of laboratory operations and equipment. Escalate issues and share best practices.
  • Lead multiple complex, high-value global vendor relationships.
  • Serve as senior leader on partner governance bodies representing the business.
  • Negotiate large contracts, hold vendors accountable to contractual KPIs, and serve as accountable party for large program budgets.
  • Serve as a lead and/or core team member driving Lab Services-related enterprise initiatives focused on cost reduction, cost avoidance, cash flow generation, process efficiencies, and improving end user experience.
  • Drive efforts to adopt innovative solutions that position the program for long-term success and efficiency.


Qualifications

Qualifications

  • BS degree in biological sciences, chemical sciences, engineering, or related scientific field.

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • At least 5 years experience in laboratory sciences and/or laboratory operations within pharma/biotech R&D.
  • 5+ years of lab bench and/or lab operations experience in pharma/biotech laboratories.
  • Demonstrated success in leading highly collaborative and effective external vendor and strategic partner relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish strong internal stakeholder relationships, lead through influence, and approach the role with a customer service mindset.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and lead the execution of strategy, business transformation, and improvement initiatives; experience with change management.
  • Ability to translate data and context into strategies and executable plans.
  • Experience managing large, complex budgets; strong financial acumen.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to present clearly and communicate effectively with senior leadership and executives.
  • Experience assessing and implementing technology solutions; strong ability to translate process and people requirements into effective, user-friendly solutions.
  • 10% travel domestic and international .

Preferred

  • 5+ years people management and development experience, including oversight of global teams.

The anticipated base pay range for this position in the US is $160,000 to $276,000.

The compensation and benefits information set forth in this posting applies to candidates hired in the United States. Candidates hired outside the United States will be eligible for compensation and benefits in accordance with their local market.

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.

  • Vacation - up to 120 hours per calendar year
  • Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington - up to 56 hours per calendar year
  • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays - up to 13 days per calendar year
  • Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
