The eDiscovery Director will work closely with Johnson & Johnson Global Legal Organization lawyers, professional associates, and external counsel. The position will also work closely with business and cross-functional team members on a global and regional level, coordinating and administering the Johnson & Johnson eDiscovery processes. The position will manage a team of eDiscovery, legal hold, and information management professionals and senior managers to assure complete and appropriate eDiscovery, legal hold, and sensible information governance for the Johnson & Johnson Companies.

The eDiscovery Director will have strong management skills, and strong executive leadership skills with a proven track record of making an impact, developing, and executing on strategies with superior results in both the short and long-term as well as developing strong relationships with internal constituents, including finance, human resources, information technology, security, and procurement.

Main Responsibilities:

• Manage and develop team of eDiscovery, Legal Hold and Information Governance Senior Managers, Managers and Professionals: Ensure appropriate development, supervision, and evaluation of team. Recruit and retain diverse team talent as appropriate.

• Assure complete and appropriate compliance with eDiscovery requests, both external and internal, and defensible processes are followed and documented. Stay aware of and ahead of trends in discovery and litigation relating to record management and production.

• Assure proper processes are in place for Legal Holds throughout the company and that processes are followed in a compliant way.

• Assure complete and appropriate eDiscovery driven Information Governance processes are followed in a defensible, timely, service-oriented, and cost-effective manner.

• Responsible for creating and managing annual budgets, including managing budgets to actuals. Responsible for promoting efficiency and cost controls across the program, including cost savings. Support additional future needs as required by program demands or as defined by Leadership.

• Supervise the selection and management of vendors and eDiscovery tools such as legal hold platforms, eDiscovery vendors and platforms and cooperate with IT to assure IT platforms have been reviewed for compliance within legal hold and eDiscovery standards for appropriate record retention and archival.

• Supervise the review of processes for sensible disposal of records by cooperating with Records Information Management and IT on methodology, retention and archival of records.

• Oversee discovery management vendors to ensure that quality, efficient and innovative solutions are utilized throughout the stages of collection, processing, hosting, review, and production of electronic and paper records. Provide strategic and operational support to drive program standardization and ensure legal discovery operational effectiveness.

• Develop a network of Legal Discovery Champions at key law firms to support standardization through training, education, and cross-matter knowledge sharing.

• Partner with procurement on review of vendor engagements (RFPs, contract negotiations), and maintain oversight of existing vendors, with emphasis on securing competitive pricing, managing fee disputes, and supporting new service negotiations.

• Communication: Ability to effectively communicate with partners in the Global Legal Organization, senior leaders, outside counsel, and associates to guide successful and compliant eDiscovery processes.

• Ensure Team Effectiveness: Clarify job and role scope in fast paced environment with multiple key stakeholders. Ensure there is accountability at a team and individual level, sufficient resource allocation and integration of team activities. Track relevant analytics for the team and individuals as required.

• Measuring Success: Establish clear, attainable, and measurable goals for the individuals and team and measure success against these goals. Generate data, as appropriate, to measure progress and outcomes. Design new processes and vet and select new vendors through support of procurement and the litigation group. Identify improvements in processes and meet changes in requirements for activities within the team's area of focus.

Qualifications

• A minimum of a Bachelors' Degree is required. Degree with focus in Legal, Compliance, Finance, Business, Management Consulting, Engineering, or appropriate related field preferred.

• A minimum of 10 years of e-discovery, and/or relevant experience required. Including substantial litigation and/or discovery experience in a law firm, consulting environment or large multi-national corporation.

• Proven leadership skills, with direct responsibility for managing teams, managing budget and schedule.

• Knowledge and experience working with legal hold and eDiscovery platforms

• and vendors.

• Ability to build trust and influence without authority, to lead and constructively challenge cross-functional legal support teams and business partners to achieve goals.

• Ability to work independently, navigate priorities, identify trade-offs, and move a group to a decision. Knows when to resolve within the team vs. when to escalate.

• Experience with leadership, relationship management and conflict resolution skills and excellent communication and organization skills.

• Ability to work well under pressure, strong time management and prioritization skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a matrix environment. This position is located in New Brunswick, NJ and may require travel domestically and internationally.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $142,000-$244,950. Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.

• Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company's consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).

• This position is eligible to participate in the Company's long-term incentive program.

• Employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:

o Vacation - up to 120 hours per calendar year

o Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington - up to 56 hours per calendar year

o Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays - up to 13 days per calendar year

o Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
