A successful candidate will lead Portfolio Strategy and Analysis, and develop, refine, and maintain robust portfolio forecasting and insights capabilities to aid in enterprise-wide portfolio decision-making for J&J Innovative Medicine. In addition, the position will drive portfolio insights for cross-Therapeutic Area (TA) and cross-DAS (Disease Area Stronghold) portfolio-related decisions and support the Global Commercial Strategy & Operations Leadership Team (GCSO SLT). The position is accountable for providing GCSO and Regional management with analysis and recommendations regarding the R&D portfolio, including programs in Early and Late Development and external assets recently licensed or acquired.
This role reports to the Sr. Director, Global Strategy and Analytics and will partner directly with VP, Portfolio Innovation & Commercialization Strategy, as needed. Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead data and analytics that generate strategic insights about the J&J Innovative Medicine portfolio in the context of the Long-Range Financial Plan (LRFP), 10-year outlook, and Business Plan (BP).
- Continue development of technology platform (Polaris) and capability to efficiently develop strategic insights about our R&D portfolio in partnership with Portfolio Finance.
- Optimize the portfolio's value through robust assessment to drive strategic decision-making.
- Own a data-driven commercial assessment framework to drive continuous portfolio prioritization/tiering in partnership with Finance. Collect, manage and assess metrics that inform the commercial perspective for programs spanning the J&J Innovative Medicine portfolio.
- Accountable for cross-TA business development opportunity assessment in partnership with Portfolio Innovation and Commercialization Strategy (PICS) team.
- Develop and maintain a framework to conduct environmental scans of the pharmaceuticals market to inform strategic choices.
- Support GOC & GCSO strategic initiatives with PICS Strategy and Business Development team, as needed.
- Co-lead ongoing build of portfolio strategy analytics capability including annual portfolio prioritization/tiering in partnership with R&D and Finance portfolio teams.
- Conduct investment trade-off analyses and other commercial assessments in support of portfolio strategy presentations for the GOC, GCSO SLT, and other leadership forums.
- Partner with Finance and the R&D Portfolio Management team to drive ongoing portfolio management initiatives, such as the determination of calibration of risk and revenue benchmarks across the TAs.
- Represent GCSO on the Strategy & Portfolio Management committee (SPM), where R&D, Finance, and Commercial meet to discuss portfolio strategy, as needed.
- Support reviews for senior management meetings (including GOC and GCSO SLT), consolidation, scenarios/analysis, facilitate GCSO connectivity with regions and IMSC functions.
- Introduce use cases/pilots that leverage new/advanced analytics techniques to address key portfolio questions.
Qualifications
Required:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required. Advanced degree in business, quantitative, or life sciences preferred.
- Minimum 10+ years experience in Strategy, Analytics, Forecasting, Finance, or another related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in leadership roles that required developing and driving commercial strategy and working with cross-functional teams required.
- Demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority required. Broad understanding of pharmaceutical industry R&D, including clinical development, regulatory strategy, and competitive dynamics required.
Preferred:
- A graduate degree in business (MBA) or an advanced degree in quantitative or life sciences is highly preferred.
- Finance, portfolio management, and/or consulting experience preferred.
- Experience in pharmaceutical asset valuation, revenue forecasting, and P&L analysis preferred. Experience in portfolio analysis and/or strategy preferred.
- Ability to build and defend arguments and influence others through effective spoken and written communications required.
- Functional experience in applying analytics and strategic forecasting in drug development or long-term strategic planning is preferred.
- A demonstrated ability to lead multiple priorities and work independently is required.
- The ability to partner and influence without authority with leaders at all levels globally and locally is required.
- Strong leadership and the ability to operate in a Credo-based, ethical manner are required.

- This position may require up to 25% domestic and international travel, as needed.
The base pay range for this position is $146,000 to $251,850. The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.
