The Director, Media and Public Relations will be a strategic partner to the MT CPA leadership team that is supporting J&J MedTech - Johnson & Johnson's $30B+ medical technology division - as it breaks barriers to better health for millions of patients around the world. This highly visible role will be a media savant; a creative, proactive thinker; can work with a team to identify creative media campaigns, pitches and solutions, has deep issues management experience, can build relations to garner trust in a matrixed organization, and keeps a positive attitude.   • Building and protecting brand reputation through paid, earned, and owned media and public affairs
  • Driving business growth through strategic marketing and commercial communications

Key Responsibilities:

Above Brand comms:

  • Leading key proactive public relations campaigns and endeavors, working across MedTech business units to find larger trend stories and opportunities to elevate business priorities to key external audiences.
  • Contribute to evolving global communications planning, key messaging and other MedTech positioning/branding/media relations initiatives.
  • Build close working relationship with J&J Global Corporate Media Relations and enterprise teams
  • Partner successfully to assist in the identification, mitigation and management of issues with the potential to impact MedTech reputation. Prepare reactive statements/media relations plans in response.
  • Act as primary spokesperson in managing issues and advancing MedTech reputation.
  • Assist and lead media relations strategizing around business development/M&A opportunities.

Business Unit Enablement

  • Provide strategic counsel and partnership to Regional and Franchise Communications Leaders with respect to media relations, issues management and external reputation.
  • Act as media thought partner and strategic advisor to business unit communications teams
  • Assist in preparing/approving MedTech executives to positively engage with media.

Governance:

  • Lead and continuously improve press release approval process and navigation throughout matrix.
  • Manage, brainstorm and review cross platform award submission process and ideation.
  • Oversee media monitoring, trend watching and quarterly earnings media monitoring.
  • Ideate and collaborate on key paid media ideas and integrations.
  • Manage agency/consultants and assigned budget.


Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree Required, MBA or Graduate Studies a plus

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • 10+ years of experience in media relations, public relations, and/or issues management
  • 5+ years of people/team leadership; experience hiring and managing external agency partners
  • A seasoned communications leader with deep understanding of how to build reputation, drive growth, activate culture, and impact society through strategic communications
  • Demonstrated expertise in high profile media relations, issues, and crisis situations
  • Strength in creative public relations/pitching/campaign work
  • Curiosity into new digital tools including project management software, generative AI, social/digital media and measurement tools
  • Standout colleague and wins with a team mentality
  • Creative and big thinker: collaborates effectively to develop and implement proactive media relations strategies
  • Experience working in a global function and a demonstrated understanding of global organizational challenges with the ability to navigate ambiguous situations
  • Demonstrates expert judgment in critical decision-making on matters impacting corporate reputation
  • Trusted advisor among peers and senior leaders

Salary:

The compensation and benefits information set forth in this posting applies to candidates hired in the United States. Candidates hired outside the United States will be eligible for compensation and benefits in accordance with their local market.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $142,000 to $244,950.

Bonus:

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/ performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.

  • Employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:
  • Vacation - up to 120 hours per calendar year
  • Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington - up to 56 hours per calendar year
  • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays - up to 13 days per calendar year
  • Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
