In this laboratory-based position, the successful candidate will provide high throughput purification to support medicinal chemistry efforts, with a particular emphasis on peptide projects. This includes purifying compounds from focused chemical libraries or singleton samples at µg to grams using various techniques, such as mass-directed reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC). The candidate will work closely with scientists from Discovery Chemistry and Discovery Process Research to expedite compound design-synthesis-test iterations. Strong communication skills and the ability to thrive in a team-oriented, results-driven environment are essential. Additionally, the candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills to influence collaboration in a multidisciplinary setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, operate, optimize, and maintain efficient workflows and instrumentations in a highly automated setting for the analysis and purification of compounds from medicinal chemistry projects, particularly in peptide synthesis singletons and libraries utilizing RP-HPLC.
  • Conduct high-throughput purification work, including crude sample method screening, purification, quality control, and distribution of purified samples specifically for peptide applications using reversed-phase HPLC.
  • Optimize workflows for maximum efficiency and deliver fast-turnaround purification services tailored to peptide needs.
  • Develop methods to address various requirements in peptide drug discovery and related modalities.
  • Present data and reports at internal and external scientific meetings as appropriate, focusing on advancements in peptide purification strategies.
  • Act as the senior member in the laboratory by providing hand-on training of new hires, mentoring junior team members, and leading lab operations efforts.
  • Collaborate with the vendors to implement new instrumentation, troubleshoot issues and ensure the smooth operation of instruments.

Qualifications

Education:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Analytical, Synthetic, Organic, Medicinal chemistry or related chemistry field is required.

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant analytical and purification experience is required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of modern analytical and purification techniques, such as UPLC and open bed mass-directed preparative RP-HPLC is required.
  • Proven experience in lab automation and compound distribution logistics related to peptide projects, along with expertise or strong interest in automation and managing large data sets is required.
  • Independent thinking and the ability to effectively collaborate in a highly matrixed environment is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare presentations is required.

If you are enthusiastic about advancing medicinal peptide chemistry with innovative purification techniques, we encourage you to apply.
