The Advanced Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) Education Team is a multidisciplinary team of subject matter experts (SME) in patient populations and disease states requiring advanced life support (MCS and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). The Advanced MCS Specialist combines foundational knowledge of disease state, unique patient populations, multidisciplinary clinician teams, environments of care and broad MCS therapy expertise with the Global Abiomed product portfolio to provide clinical education, support, consultation, and training to both internal (Abiomed Field and Corporate organizations) as well as to Abiomed's customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and maintain a medical education repository for the purposes of internal training specific to cardiac surgery, cardiopulmonary bypass, Impella 5.5 utilization trends and best practices
  • Build and deliver field education in collaboration with peers globally throughout Americas, EMFA, APAC, and Japan to ensure uniform training, education, support and messaging on the accurate use and management of Abiomed Surgical Products in cardiac surgery.
  • Liaise with the Office of Medical Affairs as a direct line of clinical support to the Abiomed field team for Impella 5.5 insertion, management, troubleshooting and explant
  • Serve as a commercial resource and force multiplier to the Abiomed field team allowing for direct customer engagement through clinical discussions and presentations to drive utilization and adoption including site specific plan development to target growth, implement best practices and optimize patient outcomes
  • Attend and support major national and international conferences and ensure dissemination of messaging regarding paradigm shifts in management, new data, best practices, and emerging trends to the Commercial Field and Global Clinical Training Organization
  • Serve as a core member and contributor in new surgical product launches and commercial indication expansions (ExCEL)
  • Work closely with cross-functional partners in Global Marketing, Professional Education and Field Enablement and to further develop value added strategies, tools, training initiatives and services focused on Impella use in cardiac surgery


Qualifications

Education:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree required, although masters-prepared candidates are strongly preferred
  • One of the following clinical licensures required: Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Physician's Assistant, Certified Cardiac Perfusionist, Respiratory Therapist, Echo Sonographer, or another Allied Health Professional

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • A minimum of 5+ years of acute clinical experience in the cardiac operating room
  • 3+ years of direct clinical management of, or direct bedside care of post-operative cardiac critical care patients
  • 3+ years of direct clinical management or care of patients supported by temporary mechanical circulatory support, including Impella heart pumps and VA ECMO
  • 1+ year direct clinical experience with Impella 5.5
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills. Must possess the ability to effectively communicate complex concepts and ideas in a concise, easy-to-understand manner
  • Experience developing clinical curriculum in the workplace for adult learners with varying levels of education and clinical experience
  • Must be self-reliant and able to take initiative while collaborating across multiple cross-functional teams
  • Requires 30-50% planned travel

Preferred:

  • Master's degree
  • Experience with other MCS commercial systems
  • Medical device Industry experience

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $94,000 to $151,800.

The Company maintains a highly competitive sales incentive compensation program. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for participation in this program in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan.

Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance. Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company's consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).

Employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:
Vacation - up to 120 hours per calendar year
Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington - up to 56 hours per calendar year
Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays - up to 13 days per calendar year
Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
