Position Summary
Working Hours: Monday - Friday 2:30 - 10:30 p.m. in Neenah, WI
The purpose of this position is to operate Bindery Finishing equipment in accordance with manufacturing standards and product specifications. All levels will operate Basic Finishing Equipment and are expected to operate at least 1 piece of Major Finishing Equipment at the productivity standard.
Basic Finishing Equipment includes, but is not limited to: drill, single-head stitch, padder, Rosback perforator, shrink wrapper, riveter, carton erector, material handling equipment.

Major Finishing Equipment includes, but is not limited to: Hamilton web collator, Didde web collator, MCT digital cutter, Col-Tec sheet collator, auto laminator, guillotine cutter, folder, Kugler, Horizon 5500 stitcher, Horizon perfect binder, Fin-Seal, and any of the Printing equipment.
Bindery Operator I - Primarily operates basic finishing equipment and operates at least 1 piece of major finishing equipment as a back-up operator.
Job Responsibilities
- Examines job specifications to determine machine set-up, operating time and quantity to be finished and shipped.
- Makes ready and operates finishing equipment according to manufacturing standards and production specifications. Makes adjustments to rectify registration or cut-off issues.
- Works with machine operators to set up equipment and performs assist duties during the operation of equipment as required.
- Performs basic bindery functions such as gathering, jogging, hand collating, etc. according to manufacturing standards and production specifications.
- Continually responsible for quality and quantity of finished product and follows all job checking procedures.
- Properly records time and materials for each individual job, as well as recording daily information utilizing automated data collection system.
- Handles routine daily and monthly maintenance as required. Works closely with the Manufacturing Maintenance staff on the preventive maintenance program as necessary.
- Works either of the two shifts as needed and works overtime as needed to meet production requirements.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Experience:
- Bindery Operator I
- 6+ mos of experience working in a manufacturing environment
- Bindery or assembly experience desired
- Bindery Operator II, III, IV
- Demonstrated ability to operate the applicable pieces of major finishing equipment at standard and for a minimum of 100 hours per year.
Education:
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).
Other Skills/Qualifications:
- Must be proficient in the use of a PC.
- Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity to perform adjustments and maintenance
- Ability to match or detect subtle differences between colors
- Problem solving skills
- Ability to follow written instructions
- Detail oriented with focus on high quality
Physical Requirements
Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing (industrial printing) environment and may involve exposure to noise hazards, high speed mechanical moving parts, chemical hazards, and hazards common to Bindery equipment operation and the printing industry.
Work may involve repetitive operation of industrial equipment for extended periods of time. The work may also require frequent lifting of materials and equipment which have the potential of weighing up to a maximum of 50 lbs. Work Activities may also include the pushing/pulling of heavy materials, supplies or equipment. Equipment operation may also require frequent bending, grasping, and reaching.
Bindery activities and printing equipment operation requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Such PPE may include hearing protection, eye protection, hand protection and safety-toe footwear.
