Jabil has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Mechanical Integration Engineer to lead mechanical design functions for data center liquid cooling systems! This person will be a customer-facing SME who will collaborate with client engineering teams, assist in conceptual designs, and work with our production sites to help implement product manufacturing.

The Mechanical Integration Engineer will have a critical understanding of manufacturing processes for thermal components and a solid comprehension of thermal design and analysis to lead and oversee the mechanical systems essential for Data Center Infrastructure, Energy Storage Systems, and HVAC functionalities. This role will involve developing specifications, selecting key components, component placement, selecting fastening methods, and transitioning design to manufacturing. Additionally, the position includes leading test process implementation and equipment selection to maintain the highest standards of operational excellence and reliability.

What will you do?

  • Responsible for understanding product specifications, detailed HVAC designs, plumbing, and hydronic systems to lead reviews with all disciplines ensuring the design and components meet performance and applicable code requirements
  • Ability to evaluate thermal data collected from engineering or manufacturing tests to confirm product conformance to thermo-mechanical requirements, testing and modeling
  • Optimize cooling system designs to meet performance requirements while minimizing costs
  • Understanding and conducting stress and flow analysis to ensure that the piping systems can withstand operational conditions without failure
  • Provide technical input to identify and mitigate project risks that may impact project plans and schedules
  • Conduct component selection for pipes, fittings, and valves based on factors like fluid type, temperature, pressure, and corrosion resistance in chillers, HVAC systems and liquid cooling loops
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and ensure system compatibility and integration for liquid cooling systems at the rack, site, equipment, and system levels, including water chillers, heat exchangers, Air Handler Units, and more
  • Ability to prepare technical specifications for piping components and systems, including testing procedures, installation procedures and maintenance guidelines
  • Assist and direct the analysis, design, and implementation of strategy for mechanical systems in Data Center Infrastructure, Energy Storage Systems, and HVAC
  • Evaluate mechanical system operations and recommend modifications to rectify malfunctions or accommodate system requirement changes
  • Review / utilize CAD/Technical Data Packages to determine and validate mechanical design requirements for components and their functions within a system environment
  • Evaluate/optimize manufacturing assembly processes by designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment, conferring with equipment vendors, and soliciting observations from production team
  • Adept at creating detailed mechanical design of components, sub-assemblies, and system integration
  • Capable of creating a Bill of Materials (BOM) for release to manufacturing
  • Conduct root cause investigation to troubleshoot complex mechanical design and material issues that arise through testing and engineering development
  • Draft and contribute to test plans and specifications
  • Perform tests, debug, and validation of mechanical systems and support manufacturing processes
  • Discuss with management and production staff to assess engineering feasibility and cost-effectiveness

How will you get here?

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field is required
  • A Master's degree in engineering or higher is preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical system integration
  • Proven track record of successful system designs and implementations in a relevant industry
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, integration strategy, and system coordination
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to Energy Storage Systems and Data Center Infrastructure is strongly desired.
  • Mechanical Engineering expertise in liquid cooling systems integration and design
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities
  • Experience in WindChill and DevOps are a plus
  • Alternatively, a suitable combination of education, experience, and/or training may be considered

  • Familiar with stage-gate processes in project lifecycle management (PLCM).
  • Able to mentor less experienced engineers

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in engineering or higher is preferred
  • Experience in WindChill and DevOps are a plus
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to Energy Storage Systems and Data Center Infrastructure is preferred.

The pay range for this role is $148,070 - $266,525. Job-related, non-discriminatory factors used to determine the actual offered rate include qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data, and consideration of internal equity. The anticipated close date of this job requisition is: January 31, 2025.

As part of the total rewards package, this position is eligible for a short-term incentive based on performance. In addition, Jabil offers benefits to enhance your health, wealth, and resilient self.
