How will you make an impact?
Evaluates and documents molded assemblies, components, and systems to produce or improve customer/company products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Develops data and makes preliminary sketches, layouts, and notes required to present automation proposals. Research basic design factors such as ease of manufacture and availability of assembly technologies and equipment. Works with other organizations impacted by design development.

What will you do?
- Leads design and development of complex automated assembly equipment for molded sub-assemblies, components, and packaging with preferred OEMS.
- Leads development and implementation of changes to the manufacturing process to achieve efficiency, quality, and/or cost improvements.
- Develop requirement specifications, system concepts, rough CAD-generated machine layouts, drawings, BOM's and budgets as part of the manufacturing strategy.
- Makes layouts of complex assemblies and details of equipment plans for optimizing floor space at the installed site
- Leads customer equipment engineering for economic production and serves as technical interface with customers as designated.
- Assesses proper material, tooling, automation, and equipment selection.
- Works with manufacturing to troubleshoot problems, upgrades, retrofits, set-ups, methods development, and the development of process parameters.
- May lead product development meetings and make recommendations to product design changes to enhance manufacturing and assembly.
- Conduct proof of concept experiments and design other testing requirements as needed.
- Develop SOP's, operations and maintenance manuals.
- Research new technology or development tools to remain informed of current technology.
- Thorough understanding of Lean Six Sigma tools, projects and processes and ability to incorporate these into assigned engineering projects.
- Lead role in small or large project, as assigned. Reviews completed projects for accuracy, clarity and completeness.
- Ensures projects are compliant with all local, regional, and national regulatory requirements, codes, and controls.
- Supports all company safety and quality program initiatives.
- Participation in design concepts and design review/ approval before build
- Onsite participation at the OEM ensuring the equipment is built to spec and performs as designed.
- Creating documentation for equipment and use in production (PM instructions and frequencies/ Standard operating procedures/ work instructions/ LOTO procedures/ cataloging recommended spares)
- Review and approve all OEM supporting documentation for the equipment (operating instructions/ maintenance manuals/ functional design spec/ etc.)
- Train automation techs at the OEM
- Conduct Engineering studies and FAT at the OEM
- Support production and maintenance activities of the equipment once installed onsite at our facility.
- Participate in all validation steps of the equipment- FAT/ SAT/ PQ.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Engineering Addendum
Automation
Technical responsibility for design and development of automation requirement specification and systems concepts and installing automation and transfer automation programs to production in a smooth and timely manner.
CAD/CAE
Technical responsibility for review and approval of production of 2D and 3D representations of plastic injection molded assemblies, components, packaging and products.
Mechanical
Technical responsibility for a variety of engineering work in planning and design of products, tools, engines, machines and other mechanically functioning equipment and mechanical industrial processes; oversees production, installation, operation, maintenance and repair of such equipment.
Mold Design
Has thorough technical understanding of design and development of molds used to produce plastic assemblies, components and packaging involving environmental, mechanical and thermal limitations. May participate in design and build prototypes. May conduct mold qualifications and validations on new molds that include press side automation using various experiments. Involves robust knowledge of scientific molding methodologies.
Packaging
Has thorough technical understanding of design and development of packing materials, shipping containers, etc., for attractive and safe shipping of products under varying conditions of climate and environment, and differing modes of transportation.
Tooling
Has thorough technical understanding of a broad range of tools, including cutting and forming tools; designs jigs, dies, and fixtures for production or experimental use; resolves design problems related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing procedures and processes and costs. Applies standard mathematical formulas and standard tool engineering data to develop tool configuration and selects standard items for incorporation into tool design. Draws preliminary sketches and prepares layout and detail drawings. Modifies tool designs according to test or production service data to improve tool life or performance.
How will you get here?
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related subject
Experience:
- 8 years of engineering experience including new product inductions
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Understands processes and has a basic understanding of various manufacturing techniques
- Strong knowledge of engineering theories, design principles and practices, and design evaluation techniques.
- Proficiency in the use of personal computers, Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and e-mail skills required.

The pay range for this role is $98,100 - $176,600. Job-related, non-discriminatory factors used to determine the actual offered rate include qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data, and consideration of internal equity. The anticipated close date of this job requisition is: February 28, 2025.
