Constructed in 1979 the location employs approximately 1,000 employees and contractors manufacturing orthopedic nails and screws along with neurological products for joint reconstruction, trauma, spine, sports medicine and other uses.

JOB SUMMARY

Our Monument plant is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer I (New Product Introduction) to join our team. This role supports NPI manufacturing operations in the areas of project management, process development, process design, tool design, machine programming, machinery & equipment acquisition, manufacturing layout, change management, continuous improvement and other duties associated with engineering support of NPI.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provides technical support in identifying continuous improvements to manufacturing operations and implementing new technologies including development of processes, researching current and emerging technologies and evaluating process quality, cost, capacity and capability alternatives.

• Supports the needs of manufacturing areas in terms of meeting the requirements for quality standards and compliant documentation, capacity, product availability and cost.

• Provides technical support regarding equipment design and development, testing of materials, preparation of specifications and operator instructions, process studies, investigations, root cause analysis, problem solving and report or presentation preparation.

• Performs assignments designed to continue the development of professional work knowledge and abilities requiring application of standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks, project management, statistical analysis and presentation of data and technical writing.

ENGINEERING DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assists in the development and implementation of changes to product design and/or the manufacturing process to achieve efficiency, quality, and/or cost improvements by participating in new product development programs.

• Assists in developing requirement specifications, system concepts, CAD generated machine layouts, detail drawings, BOM's and budgets. Makes layouts of basic assemblies and details of parts of devices, mechanisms and structures.

• Assists in providing customer product design engineering for economic production; may participate in meetings with customers.

• Assists in assessing proper material, tooling, automation and equipment selection.

• Assists manufacturing in trouble-shooting problems, upgrades, retrofits, set-ups, methods development, and the development of process parameters

• Participates in product development meetings and may make recommendations to product design changes to enhance manufacturing and assembly.

• May conduct proof of concept experiments and design other testing requirements as needed.

• May develop SOP's, operations and maintenance manuals.

• May research new technology or development tools to remain informed of current technology.

• Basic understanding of Lean Six Sigma tools, projects and processes and ability to incorporate these into assigned engineering projects.

• Reviews completed projects for accuracy, clarity and completeness.

• Ensures projects are compliant with all local, regional and national regulatory requirements/codes and controls.

• Supports all company safety and quality programs and initiatives.

• May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's degree preferred;

• Entry level or up to two years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Background in manual or automated machining including CNC machining is preferred.

• Previous experience working in a regulated industry, such as Medical Device is preferred.

• Six Sigma or Lean Sigma experience preferred.

• Demonstrates strong written, verbal and presentation skills.

• Demonstrates strong computer skills, such as the use of Microsoft Office, Minitab, and databases.

• Demonstrates strong organizational and project management skills and are results oriented.

• Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills and professional interactions with coworkers.

• Demonstrates troubleshooting skills.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be willing to support global projects including some travel.

• Must be willing to support all production shifts.

• Participates in and understands compliance related activities pertaining to the job assignment including compliance with the Quality System Regulation (QSR), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and applicable Work Instructions.

• Follows all laws and policies as they apply to one's job and maintains the highest levels of professionalism, ethics and compliance at all times.

• Supports and operates in a proactive safety environment

• Works in conditions that may be hot, cold, wet and/or noisy along with exposure to fumes, oil, coolants and other manufacturing related chemicals.

The pay range for this role is $58,458 - $97,345. Job-related, non-discriminatory factors used to determine the actual offered rate include qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data, and consideration of internal equity. The anticipated close date of this job requisition is: November 11, 2024.
