Job Description

JOB TITLE: WIP Cycle Counter 401

JOB SUMMARY Under minimal supervision, the WIP Cycle Counter is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of Work-In-Progress (WIP) inventory counts by comparing systematic records with physical counts of materials actively used in the manufacturing process. This role includes performing system investigations and root cause analyses to resolve discrepancies and maintaining precise documentation for inventory adjustments. The WIP Cycle Counter plays a critical role in maintaining inventory integrity and may act as a liaison between Production Control, Production Management, and the production line for inventory-related issues.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Cycle Counting & Inventory Accuracy:

  • Conduct regular WIP cycle counts of materials actively used in production to identify and correct discrepancies.
  • Investigate root causes of discrepancies by analyzing system transactions and physical inventory data.
  • Reconcile inventory variances and perform necessary adjustments in the ERP system, ensuring proper documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of adjustments and investigations for audit purposes.

System and Process Investigations:

  • Perform system-based research to track material movements and identify sources of errors.
  • Collaborate with relevant teams to resolve inventory discrepancies and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Generate and analyze reports on inventory accuracy and present findings to Supervisors and Managers.

Production Support:

  • Ensure all materials required for production processes are correctly accounted for and accessible.
  • Identify gaps between systematic counts and physical counts and provide timely resolutions to avoid production delays.
  • Support production lines with inventory transactions, including backflushing and material adjustments.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Prepare and maintain accurate paperwork for all inventory adjustments and transactions.
  • Report WIP accuracy metrics and trends to the Supervisor and Manager regularly.
  • Maintain compliance with department procedures and ISO documentation standards.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Act as a liaison between Production Control, Production Management, and the production line to resolve inventory-related issues.
  • Provide input and support for continuous improvement initiatives related to inventory accuracy and control.

Additional Duties:

  • Assist with other inventory-related tasks, including RTS (Return to Stock), receiving, and stockroom activities, as needed.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong understanding of inventory control processes and systems, with experience in ERP systems (SAP preferred).
  • Analytical skills for identifying root causes of discrepancies and implementing corrective actions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced skills in Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and the role of WIP inventory in production.
  • Ability to read and interpret work instructions, inventory records, and production documents.

SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Competency in basic arithmetic, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, as well as computing ratios and percentages.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to perform physical inventory counts in a manufacturing environment, which may include standing, bending, and lifting.
  • Capacity to operate material handling equipment as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical or vocational training is a plus.
  • Previous experience in inventory control, cycle counting, or a related role in manufacturing preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This role operates in a manufacturing environment where safety protocols must be adhered to at all times.
  • Exposure to noise, temperature variations, and potential physical hazards is expected.

SCHEDULE:

  • This position operates on a 401 rotating continental shift schedule, Monday through Thursday, from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Thursdays will alternate on and off each week.
