Job Description

Primary Function of the Position

The successful candidate will design, implement, debug, and verify embedded and PC software necessary for the automated production of new robotic surgical platforms.  As a member of the engineering team, the successful candidate will work closely with other engineers to design and develop robotic test fixtures supporting component testing from the research phase to product development and manufacturing. The engineer must excel in a high-energy, focused, small-team environment and have a commitment to high product quality.

Essential Job Duties

  • Possess wide-range of experience, uses professional concepts and company goals to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways
  • Ability to represent function/department at the highest levels, including executives and senior management
  • Work on a cross-functional team to design, implement, document and qualify software to be used in robotic fixtures on an automated manufacturing line
  • Collaborate with the product team, hardware/software developers, and manufacturing engineers to develop comprehensive diagnostic software to ensure devices meet specific requirements
  • Assist in the development of formal manufacturing process instructions that use software to perform tests
  • Ensure FDA compliance through documentation, unit testing, peer reviews, and validation of software output
  • Support manufacturing engineers in verification and validation activities

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

  • Hands-on engineering experience with proven ability to work well in a team environment
  • Proven ability to isolate and debug hardware and software problems
  • A passion for creating robust and reliable products
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills

Required Education and Training

  • Minimum BS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or Computer Engineering, or similar field relating to robotics or electro-mechanical systems
  • Minimum 8 years of development experience in manufacturing engineering, test engineering, diagnostics software, or embedded software development

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience with NI LabView
  • Embedded Linux development
  • Motor or robotic control system development
  • Experience in an ISO 13485, ISO 9001, or medical device manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with regulated Quality Systems, especially medical device regulations
