Job Description
Primary Function of Position
Intuitive Surgical™, the world leader in surgical robotics, is seeking an electrical engineer to join the product development team. This position will be responsible for creating innovative electronic PC boards with emphasis in motor control and power circuits, but also containing communications, processing and other advanced capabilities.
Candidates must be self-motivated, creative, resourceful, capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment, and possess good technical breadth and depth.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Own, as Responsible Engineer, a variety of PC boards, especially those that are tightly integrated with robotic mechanics.
- Interface with other engineering disciplines including mechanical and software.
- Work closely with the FPGA programming team to provide full functionality to the circuit design.
- Follow rigorous design control methodology from design specification through design transfer to manufacturing.
- Write detailed design documentation, including specifications and verification plans.
- Perform other electrical engineering duties as needed.
Qualifications
Skill/Job Requirements:
- Minimum BSEE, MSEE preferred.
- Familiarity with a broad range of electronic components and hardware, including analog, power, FPGAs, microcontrollers, memories, logic, signal conditioning, and communication interfaces.
- Experience with schematic capture tools (OrCAD preferred).
- Experience designing PC boards, including actual hands-on board layout (Allegro preferred), bring-up, and debug.
- Experience with analog and/or power designs (such as motor drivers or power supplies) at the schematic and PCB-design level.
- Familiarity with RF and antenna circuitry such as used in RFID and communications (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, etc.).
- Some experience with scripting languages, especially Python and/or MATLAB.
- Familiarity with Verilog or other HDL programming languages.
- Understanding of component selection criteria, including design for reliability and manufacturability.
- Comfort with all phases of the product development life cycle including design, implementation, debug, verification, qualification, manufacturing transfer, and maintenance.
- Experience with standard bench test equipment such as oscilloscopes, function generators, protocol analyzers, etc.
- Hands-on engineering abilities with the ability to work well in a team environment.
- Excellent communication, specification, and documentation skills.
- Minimum 8 - 10+ years of experience.

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications.
