Job Description
Primary Function of Position
The Electrical Engineer will develop new and innovative surgical energy equipment and accessories for the Intuitive da Vinci Surgical System. They must excel in a high-energy team environment and be capable of making sound decisions when faced with the time pressures and incomplete information typical of new product development. The successful candidate must have strong technical depth and a track record of successful product development efforts, along with a collaborative attitude and willingness to share their knowledge with other team members.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Represent Electrical Engineering on cross-functional project teams that design and develop next generation robotic surgical products
- Provide technical expertise to Marketing, Software and Clinical Development Engineering to help determine product requirements for next generation products
- Determine best methods to satisfy product requirements and to ensure design outputs are successfully integrated into effective system designs
- Support new product development across multiple development platforms
- Develop, implement, test and document solutions for designs according to clinical and environmental requirements
- Provide technical expertise to resolve challenging design, manufacturing and field issues
- Develop prototypes to aid in the determination of future product release content
- Provide technical support to other company stakeholders on electronics technology
- Support the quality and regulatory processes as required
Qualifications
Skill/Job Requirements
- Minimum BSEE required, MS preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience
- Product development experience in a regulated environment is preferred
- Experience with mixed signal design, embedded system design and PCBA design providing isolation for patient applications
- Understanding of component selection criteria, lifecycle management, and design for reliability and manufacturability
- Demonstrated knowledge of electronic component manufacturing processes, including PCB fabrication, assembly and testing
- Hardware development experience in a fast paced, high visibility environment
- Comfortable with all phases of the product development lifecycle including design, implementation, debug, verification, validation, and transfer to manufacturing
- Hands-on engineer with the proven ability to work well in a team environment
- Experience with IEC60601-1 and IEC60601-2-2 is preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively across all levels and organizations
- Ability to travel up to 10% time
- A real excitement to learn and get to the bottom of tough technical problems
- A passion for creating robust and reliable products

It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications.
