Import Specialist

Overview

Job Summary

 

The Import Specialist prepares all required import customs documentation with freight forwarders to expedite shipments via truck, air or courier being imported into the country. Reserves space for shipments with freight forwarders based on production needs. Coordinate with Distribution Center, Buyers, and Planning team to efficiently meet production deadlines. Monitor supplier shipments to ensure timely delivery.

Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities

  • Supports Import/Export Group Leader
  • Coordinates with outside freight forwarders, airlines, common carriers, and internal customers for both import and export of materials
  • Prepares necessary documentation including but not limited to commercial and proforma invoices, Import or Export declarations, dangerous goods declarations, certificate of origins, certificate of analysis, and others
  • Works closely with client services on all import and export shipments as needed
  • Demonstrates a high level of customer relations skills, evaluating needs before taking action
  • Shows concern for the customers both external and internal and informs of the expected action to be taken
  • Maintains a positive and professional attitude
  • Coordinates with other in-house service departments
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge & Experience for the position:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • 5+ years of related experience preferred
  • U.S. Customs Brokers license preferred
  • Previous experience importing medical devices preferred

Skills & Capabilities:

  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 programs, specifically Word, Excel, Teams
  • Strong working knowledge of SAP and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems
  • Knowledge of Import Customs Tariffs, rules, and regulations
  • The ability to communicate effectively at all levels, both internally and externally. Strong time management, problem solving and strategic planning skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to assess situations and set priorities
