Colocation Interconnect Specialist

Job purpose


The primary purpose of the Colocation Interconnect Specialist position is to build and maintain Liberty Global's colocation infrastructure in 3rd party facilities across EU and US. This role will be managing the complete life cycle of the infrastructure and services within colocation facilities from planning, budgeting, ordering, implementation, operation and decommissioning.

Key Accountabilities
The key accountabilities of this role are

• 3rd Party Data Centre Planning & Implementation:
o Translate business requirements into space, power/cooling and cabling needs
o Lead colocation infrastructure deployment in 3rd party facilities (rack, power/cooling, patch panels, cabling)

o Install/remove network equipment in 3rd party facilities
o Rack layouts management, power usage monitoring and asset tracking
o Ensure patch panel records are up to date and sufficient ports are available to support forecasted network growth
o Ensure ordering of extra requirements is completed in a timely manner
o Identify and plan the long term needs for all 3rd party facilities (space, power/cooling, cabling)
o Conduct regular site surveys of all data centers (remote or on-site) to ensure records are up to date
o Efficiently manage deliveries to/from 3rd party colocation facilities
o Manage the access in 3rd party colocation facilities

• Project Management:
o Effectively manage 3rd party supplier relationship (from offer/order to delivery)
o Project managing and coordinating internal and 3rd party deliveries, making sure they happen on time and within the budget

Reporting and Data Integrity:
o Ensure all documentation is stored correctly and updated in a timely fashion where necessary
o Manage the 3rd party data center portfolio and document all existing equipment
o Produce periodic reports on data center metrics

• Finance:
o Support yearly budget submissions by translating network forecast into colocation requirements
o Support monthly financial reporting
o Provide specialty support to finance team in cases of invoice debating

• Team Support:
o Stand in for manager to lead the team
o Lead and guide team members on colocation subject matters
o Train team members on colocation aspects such as access and delivery processes, rack layout understanding, colocation strategy, understanding patch panel and fiber diagrams

Knowledge & Experience
Preferred qualifications / experience:

• Fluent in spoken and written English
• Experience in multinational and multicultural environments
• Good interpersonal skills, able communicator, confident, honest, reliable
• Self-directed, adaptable, organized, willing to learn new skills and concepts
• Possessing critical thinking and troubleshooting skills
• Thorough understanding of data center technical aspects (tiers, power and cooling infrastructure, power calculations and conversions, floor and rack layouts, MMR concept, structured cabling, optical fibers including measurements, commonly used industry standards)
• In-depth knowledge in data center planning in a large environment
• Good knowledge and working experience with 3rd party colocation providers across Europe and US
• Financial/Business case skills
• Preferred Bachelor/Master in Computer Science with a focus on Telecommunications
• Preferred industry recognized accreditation in Data Centre Management
• Minimum alternate industry experience of 12 years in large carrier Telco or Cable provider with International presence across Europe or US
