Office of the CIO (OCIO) Advisor Job Description - Principal

The OCIO Advisor will be responsible for leading, advising, and supporting a wide range of strategic initiatives related to the Office of the CIO. This individual will have a deep understanding of OCIO processes, financial planning, budgeting, and business case validation. With experience across multiple clients and organizations, the ideal candidate will serve as a trusted advisor, providing insights and guidance to ensure the effective management and performance of OCIO functions.

Location: On-site in Calgary, Canada

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support capital and operating planning processes for the OCIO, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Develop, review, and manage the Annual Operating Plan (AOP), ensuring accurate and timely submission and approval by senior stakeholders.
  • Perform scenario analysis on budgets, identifying key risks, opportunities, and impacts.
  • Validate business case benefits and ensure they align with strategic objectives.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to senior stakeholders on budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting related to OCIO activities.
  • Facilitate and lead monthly financial reporting processes, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of financial data.
  • Gather and document requirements for key reporting tools such as the Business Performance (BP) dashboard.
  • Lead business process re-engineering efforts within the OCIO to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless delivery of OCIO initiatives.

  • Collaborate with leaders across the organization and share ownership of maturing OCIO activities.
Satisfy Purpose
  • Advocate as a facilitator of change for the organization's strategic plans.
  • Facilitate value realization process by connecting stakeholders to communicating a shared purpose specifically shared values, beliefs, and behaviors.
  • Understand needs and requirements of each stakeholder involved in OCIO activities and facilitate delivery of relevant artifacts & data points.
  • Encourage stakeholders to understand the impact of adhering to the OCIO activities to enable data-driven decision making to improve the business.
  • Strategize with leaders to improve OCIO activities.
Basic Qualifications
  • Senior-level experience (7+ years) with a proven track record in OCIO activities, including financial planning, budget management, and scenario analysis.
  • Strong understanding of capital and operating planning processes.
  • Experience with Annual Operating Plan development, budget submissions, and review processes with senior stakeholders.
  • Solid knowledge of monthly financial reporting, forecasting, and analysis within the OCIO function.
  • Experience gathering reporting requirements and working with reporting tools (e.g., BP dashboard).
  • Familiarity with business process re-engineering in OCIO or similar functions.
  • Ability to guide and advise senior leaders, drawing from experience with multiple clients or organizations.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
