Your role and responsibilities

The Global Sales unit is looking for an IBM Z Site Reliability Engineer, to provide, configure, automate and deploy IBM Z and Linux ONE based demonstration environments in support of IBM Technology Zone.

Responsibilities include:

  • Planning and configuration of mainframe HW
    • LPAR Definitions, IO configurations, CPU, Network, Storage allocations (CKD)
  • Using z/OS as a management tool to deploy LPARs
  • Planning, installing, configuring, and implementing z/OS, zVM
  • Planning, installing, configuring, and implementing zLinux, KVM and Guests
  • Securing IBM Z and Linux ONE and implementing service level upgrade and patches.
  • Configure and implement both ECKD and SCSI DASD
  • Configure, implement TCPIP stacks using OSA/ROCE Adapters
  • Install and maintain middle ware products
  • Implement automated deployments of IBM Z and Linux ONE operating systems
    • OS deployments, configurations and security hardening
  • Integrate mainframe with IBM Technology Zone

As an SRE in IBM Consulting, you'll serve as a leader in defining solutions for clients. You'll identify insights and tasks that can be automated. You'll have the opportunity to identify points of improvement in technical processes and propose new ways to do it through automation, help our customer to resolve their pain points and, through co-creation, define solutions that allow improving the efficiency of their operations. Your primary responsibilities include: Strategic Design and Analysis of Distributed Systems: Design, analyze, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems. Proactive Reliability Management and Incident Response: Participate in on-call rotation, engage with product teams to fix production outages, and carry forward action items to improve ongoing reliability. Empowering Tools and Automation for Enhanced Reliability: Develop effective tooling, alerts, and response to both identify and address reliability risks including automatic problem detection and mitigation.

Required technical and professional expertise

  • Minimum 3 years of experience managing IBM Z hardware
  • 2 - 5 years Red Hat Enterprise Linux engineering experience
  • 2 - 5 years experience as a z/OS systems programmer
  • Experience with z/OS, z/OS UNIX System Services, SMP/E, TCPIP, RACF, JCL, ISPF, SMS, z/OSMF, and other standard z/OS components/products
  • Experience with programming languages, such as REXX,
  • Experience with Redhat OCP
  • Familiar with DIRMAINT and RACF
  • Experience with Bash and other scripting.
  • Knowledge of IBM mainframe technologies including z/VM, z/OS, KVM
  • Understanding of IODF, IOCDS, FICON, control units and standard z/OS configuration best practices
  • Familiar with System z hardware
  • Familiar with software development lifecycle
  • Good communication skills both written and oral are required as the individual must interface with application developers, support teams, software vendors and management staff

Preferred technical and professional experience

  • Experience or familiarity with Ansible, OpenShift
  • IBM Z TKE Experience
  • SUSE and Ubuntu Experience a plus
  • High level assembler, and python
