Your Role and Responsibilities
As an IBM Application Architect, you directly help clients transform their business and solve complex problems. You will define the scope and vision for projects that deliver customized solutions using your knowledge of IBM platforms. You are a technical leader, serving as a liaison among business partners, technical resources, and project stakeholders.
US Citizenship is required for this role without exception. Candidates must also have an approved, active US Government Top Secret/SCI + Full Scope Polygraph security clearance and be able to sit onsite in the Washington DC Metro area.
The Solution Architect is an innovative technologist and problem-solver who will architect, design, and implement complex and often cutting-edge data and AI/ML solutions for a variety of environments and use cases.
- The Solution Architect will be responsible for designing solutions to solve a business problem, including but not limited to installation, configuration, integration and implementation of technologies, products, and integrated solutions tailored to specific client requirements.
- Responsibilities also include participating in requirements gathering and design sessions with clients, analyzing existing processes, and converting business needs into technical designs.
- This role requires a deep understanding of business challenges across various industries and the ability to provide effective solutions using relevant technologies and products.
- The Solution Architect must be well informed about industry trends, market directions, available and emerging technologies and products, and US Government stakeholder needs - leveraging their expertise to design, develop, and customize solutions.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- US Citizenship and an approved, active Top Secret//SCI + Full Scope Polygraph are required on day one without exception.
- Ability to sit onsite regularly at IBM and/or customer worksites located in the Washington, DC metro area.
- Five years' experience designing and implementing data management and AI/ML solutions.
- Strong knowledge of integration and commonly used patterns and technologies, and the ability to apply such knowledge in solution design. Patterns include data fabric and data mesh, and technology examples include DataBricks, Snowflake and RedHat OpenShift.
- Experience with capacity planning, scalability, performance, load testing, and multi-tenancy concepts and solutions.
- Demonstrated experience working with, designing for, and deploying to major cloud providers including AWS and Microsoft Azure.
- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills including demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with business and technical stakeholders, including senior-level clients.
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
- Three years within the past five architecting data management and AI/ML systems for the US Government in the national security and defense sector.
